A day out in northants

Well we all met up at my house at 09:30ish, Tendays first closely followed by Mudwiz, littleport and rockoz and soon after stanbloke.
We had the ubiquitous brews then headed off to do some lanes. First ovestone to warm up then round the ecton estate to get a thousand splashes from all the puddles. I took the lads down to a double humpback bridge nearby to get some nice footage on my new ATC5 helmet cam. Got the shots, great one's. Mudwiz about 18 inches off the ground, the other lads getting some air and stanbloke about 18 inches in the air at the back and front wheel about 4 foot landing on the back wheel and roaring past.
We then headed over to wollaston where we did a long lane only to find at the end of it another closure notice, but alas nothing the end we entered so then when we all stopped and tried to watch the footage of the day so far on the small viewing screen of the camera and I deleted the whole lot including the air time! what a pratt!!
we then headed off to a lane not used but on the map,we eventually found it a field full of sheep and a couple of sets of gates. Through we go and find some good lanes only to get lost and spend an hour in a quarry trying to find a way out.
We eventually bumped into an old local who pointed us in the right direction and off we went to skewbridge abandoned ski slope to spend a bit of time on the trails and mud and catch a bite at the bp next door.
We were going for our last jaunt round the place before going to the next lanes when Mudwiz decided to lead us off into the back woods and the really muddy stuff. Unfortunately a very large puddle was a little deeper than he expected and you can watch the result.
After the bike was eventually fished out the problem of the water in the exhaust had to be addressed and rather than try to kick it out a plan was hatched utilise what I recomend everyone takes on a rideout just for their sheer fearlessness and brute strength-ed-ness
A ROCKOZ/Stanbloke
So water out it was tools out, sparkplugs removed etc,no joy. A session of kicking by everyone,no joy. A tow by a landy,no joy. So off to the BP garage munchies and AA. Eventually the AA man gave up on his idea it was the sparkplug and stan suggested we drop the float bowl off the carb, this done about a carb full of sludge ran out and after another mini marathon kicking sesh the xr breaths fire again.
By ths ime we're all either getting knackered or got to get home for stuff so away we all go. Mudwiz, rockoz, little port and myself did the first lanes again and back to mine or a cuppa. Stanbloke and Tendays head off for the M1.
I'll try and upload another vid later as I left the camera rolling all the way home so it's a bit of a biggy.
Thanks to the guys for coming out for the day,I had a blast and am completely knackered, mainly the riding but also from the laughing.

The Tiger saw a bit of gravel today in the north of england, I think I might have been a bit out of my depth in that crap though (understatement of the century)

Why is it Mudwiz always finds the deepest of holes to throw himself into

Re: A day out in northants

Brilliant day out .

A Top crew provided cracking entertainment and looking forward to the next one .

Highlights for me were getting the 990 really airborne (scared miself silly ) and getting towed on Muddy's XR around a MX track by a landrover(Note to self..... Bring tow straps and 17mm spanner )..

Thanks to all..

Great picture of me in the deep water... Could you send me the other one as well, lol.

Great day out, ready for the next one in two weeks on the next bank holiday.

As stan said 17mm in the bag next time...

Re: A day out in northants

WOW!

Excellent way to have a sunny rideout: first you gather, then you drink a bit, then you ride, then someone plants his bike in some kind of sea, then you hang the bike upside down, then everybody kicks, etc etc.

I've forwarded your vids to my dudes 'cause that's the proper way to clean the exhaust!

Wait a minute, was there in the group a Transalp? Did she go where the XR went? I've got one and got trapped yesterday on a puddle like that, not so deep or muddy but same length and width. And alone! It took me patience and laughter to get her out!

And the Dommie seems to be enjoying too!!

Whenever I go up to UK I'll try to contact you for sure!

cheers

Re: A day out in northants

this was the puddle a couple of moths ago before it dried out and turned into a quagmire

Yep, BTbloke was on an XL650, I was on an F650GS Dakar, Rockoz was on an NX650, Stan on a KTM990, Tendays on a DRZ400, and Mudwiz on the XR650

We all went everywhere the XR went, but after seeing what happened to mudwiz the rest of us decided to give the 'puddle' a miss
