Offroading in Thetford, May 2009

Tell me a bit more about Thetford. I know it's a fair trek from where I live. Do you recon it's worth the trek and are there enough roads to keep you occupied for more than a day? Thinking of going there for the weekend to make it worth my while - I'm gagging to ride proper sand again.

From where you are, its between 1 1/2 and 1 3/4 hours (up M11 and A11) .

Well worth the trip. Theres plenty of tarmac roads in between the forests. And plenty of legal byways if you know where youre going

DO NOT ride in any of the forests that are not byways - if you get caught by the rangers, there will be no sweeties for you and probably a big fine / police intervention

If youre riding on your own, take it easy, as phone signals can be a bit sporadic if you get stuck.

Youre very close to RAF Mildenhall, RAF Lakenheath and RAF Honnington. Mildenhall and Lakenheath dont usually fly weekends which is a shame - F15's on full afterburner and tankers and AWACS and the odd hercules and blackhawk

Plenty of great roads to ride around on - you could just do the green lanes and turn around and go back and do them again for a fuller day.

You should come up with us next time, and we can show you some routes

As you see, Phil, we may not have mountains, but Wales doesn't have sunshine and dust. At least, not when I've been there!

Hi, does anyone have the locations of these green lanes on the os map? i've found a few but i'm not sure if there are more??? cheers.
