    Bristol/Bath trail ride

    What a superb day out.

I met up with Boboneleg and Tendays and we made our way to The Globe where we met up with DaveS and Barftone. It started off sunny and continued getting hotter as the day went on - a bit too hot for the gear I was wearing so I need to go shopping.

We went for a little jaunt down the A4 to the first lane and after that I haven't got a clue where we went. It was just lane after lane of fun - some more fun than others.

Barftone was the first and only puncture of the day:

Dave (just out of shot pastie in hand to give him the energy to hold Tony's bike up) is displaying the offending 4 inch nail:

That's it for pictures I'm afraid - too busy enjoying the day!

I am amazed at some of the stuff we managed to get the bikes up. Going up Pipehouse Lane was, as we had been led to expect, a bit 'interesting' but it was not the most difficult to get up.

One of the lanes we did after lunch looked fine but was more slippery than it looked. Barftone just flew up it cleanly and disappeared. The rest of us didn't manage quite as well bumping and careering all over the place, generally failing to find traction and with a few offs to boot. The successful formula was one person riding and three pushing. Eventually we got all the bikes up with a good bit of teamwork.

Thanks to Barftone for leading and Boboneleg for being tail end Charlie for the duration. Top job

I didn't want to make you feel too bad about missing it Phil so I couldn't possibly include details of exactly how brilliant the day out was

Hopefully there will be additional input from others on the ride. It took me long enough to produce that as I appear to have gone from two fingered to one fingered typing due to my knackered shoulder seizing up.

No more piccies I'm afraid, I was 'without camera'. Good to get out on the local lanes again and boy some of them were really overgrown !!

Hayfever made for some interesting riding at times with eyes streaming and plenty of sneezing.

Good team work got everybody up the 'interesting' bits.

    Re: Bristol/Bath trail ride

We had a fun day apart from my puncture (welcome back to trail riding ). It was quite a short one but obviously with a couple of little tests thrown in just to dust off the cobwebs. Good to see most of the local lanes still rideable but a bit overgrown. Some of them don't get used by anybody these days. A lesson on what not to wear on a muggy day Alan/tendays? Forget the waterproofs next time. Thanks to Bob for the loan of his proper tyre levers (had mine but they ain't as good) and to Dave and Alan for their muscle! The DRZ (E) had it's first outing and apart from waking the neighbours across the valley (need a quieter pipe) early on, ran like a dream. Great engine and the magic button if a tad lardy (bit like me). I'll sort a Wiltshire special after the Spain trip and can't wait to get back over that bridge.

Sounds good to me. Count me in - as long as I can get a day pass again
