Although this probably isnt the correct thread.... but whilst riding an XR sounds part of the trip you have to consider tire choice, longer range fuel tank, changing oil ( I do my XR at 1000 kms religeously, by which time its blackish anyway) spare filters, spare oil for topping up ( prolonged road use always seems to burn on XRs). Getting the XR sorted for carrying luggage, racks are hard to come by.
Mind my DRZ will be far more suitable
