cobwebs

I managed to get out for a ride this afternoon, so it rained...

wasn't going to stop me though cos I was really pissed off cos of work stuff & really needed to blow the cobwebs out. it wasn't at all cold, just grey & drizzly, like my head I guess.

Rode down past work & out on the N6, then turned right towards Vezelay

up on the hill you can just make out the basilica.
    a zoom in?
    hey presto

I did actually ride right up to the basilica but there were too many tourists about, I'll go back again when I can be alone in there cos it's something else. It's a majour waypoint for the pilgrimage de santiago de Compostella & it's where the (I think)2nd crusade started from. You can stand before the alter & know that you're standing on the same stone as ST Bernard when he preached the 2nd crusade... (no I ain't saying the crusades were good or anything, just that it makes you think...)

Anyway, the road between Vezelay & Clamecy is a cracker on a bike, so I had some real fun, only stopping for a gander at this place

the guy that owns & runs "cardo land" is a right nutter, Monsieur Cardo (believe it or not) has dug some holes in his garden, built half a dozen papier maché caves & rocks, 2 dozen cardboard dinosaurs & called it "CARDOLAND"... people actually pay to see this ****e!

    bike looks good!

then he set his dog on me

    so I legged it

a little further on I came across one of the myriad resistance memorials that litter rural france, I've posted pics of some before. I usually stop & have a smoke & a think by these things, I find they help to put things into perspective.

    the stone says

for those that don't do french

"Here on the 24th August 1944
    32 patriots
from the group "Albert" of the maquis "Camille"
    attacked a german column
3 of them paid with their lives"

I had to stop again a little further on cos I wanted a photo of this

    & this

right, now she's run in, when am I supposed to do the first oil change...?. I rode home in a bit of a hurry cos of having to pick the kids up so didn't stop fopr any more pics, besides I'd taken that route to see the trees changing colour but it's only just started & nothing very special yet & the next time I gat an afternoon off it will all be over I guess...

anyway itwas worth it just for the head clearing excercise & getting a brand new bike with no kilometers on it of course...

Why change the oil when the bike's got no miles on it?

I always wondered where the phrase "moon mileage" came from in the trade
