Hi every one.
Well got back early Saturday 12 am ish from my trip to Austria to do the Grossglockner. Had a good time, the 700 Alp went well, I had two nights in Interlaken on the way up, weather had been very wet up to then and did not get a lot better.
After leaving Switzerland I headed for Zell am See in Austria. The weather was still wet, my plan was to stay for four nights at Seecamp camp site but ended up staying five.
On the Sunday I did the Grossglockner and can honestly say it was worth the journey. I bought a ticket that let me do the pass more than once. That said, the weather got even worse and when I looked out my tent on the Monday morning all I could see was snow on the hillsides and it was only 5 degrees!
I tried doing the Grossglockner again but it was closed for snow for the next two days, but on the third day it had opened although there was still lots of the snow around and care was required while riding.
Thursday saw me travelling back to Interlaken for one night so as to break the ride up back to Calais.
Friday saw me back to catch the ferry home.
All in all, by the time I got home I had clocked up 2900 miles.
As for the subject of tolls, as I said in earlier posts I got the Swiss motorways Vignetta before I went and yes, I was checked at the Swiss boarder for it. The Austrian Vignetta was bought at the first petrol station after entering Austria and at 4.5 euros for a ten day one was not worth the risk of being caught without one.
