    Test Pic

Taken on our way up Col de Bonnette. Saw some Marmots but the buggers were gone by the time the camera was ready.

Cool. Now I have the picture thing sorted I will do the trip report & pics from our Pyranees / Alps trip in Aug/Sept. Need to sort the pic quality though?

    Quality doesn't look too bad.
Like the pic so will mark it for the home page selection of pics.

    Cheers, there are better ones.
Quality problem must be my eyes - or the screen.

I can see it is a bit pixelated but it'll do.
If you've got any more then post them up.

The pic was taken at max resolution on a 4mpx digi camera. Resized in photoshop to 800 x 600, then to get it to 50kb had to select "low quality" when saving. Thought that should produce a reasonably good shot. I notice some other pics on the forum are very sharp. Whats the secret?

Its always a compromise but you should be able to get it sharp.
Don't select "low quality" try telling Photoshup to save it to 50Kb instead.

I use PhotoShop Elements (because it came with the camera) and the Save for Web... function. However, as I pretend to be a semi-serious photographer I have to process my images first (from a RAW format), which includes 'sharpening' the image. The camera has an anti-aliasing mask in front of the sensor to avoid moire effects and so forth. Sharpening removes the blurring effect this mask has on the image. If you've similar software, you could try playing with sharpening to see if that improves the aethetics of your photos.

Anyway, back to 'Save for web...', as my camera's sensor has a 3:2 aspect ratio, I resize to 600x400 pixels to avoid cropping, then play with the quality slider until the file size is 50KB.
