GS to Australia!

In 1998 we sold our house and almost everything else we owned to ride an R100GS to Australia. The bike was heavily modified by Ernie at 'Overland Solutions' with a strengthened rear subframe, custom made pannier frames, cockpit, crashbars, sidestand and rear rack. In addition I fitted a 43Ltr HPN tank giving the bike a range of around 500 miles. We had travelled through France, Spain, Italy, Austria, Slovenia and into Hungary. On reaching the border with Romania we heard the news that my father had been taken seriously ill and had to return to he UK. The bike was sold on our return and I vowed that should the opportunity arise to do such a trip again the only bike I would consider would be an @ I found the GS to be too agricultural and need constant maintainance with regard to carb balancing, valve clearances and electrical problems. I was contacted by the latest owner very recently who is riding the bike to Oman over the winter and it prompted me to rake out some pictures of it.

This was in France at the start of the trip.

We had two years to do the trip. I had taken a career break and Jules had left her job completely. I know alot of travellers do it half that but, we like to actually see the countries we visit. Would have been a great trip but, at the time just wasn't meant to be I guess. LB.
