Re: Have you done any advanced rider training?

Did my first police advanced course about 12 years ago with the driving school at Chelmsford, (before essex got rid of bikes) - scared myself to death for the first couple of weeks, then had a zen like afternoon where everything clicked and I never looked back.

got my class one 3 years later, before they stopped calling them class ones (it's elitist apparently) with the thames valley school at banbury, excellent instuctors, many ex and current club/tt racers, and the infuriatingly quick and permanently unflustered Andy Morrison of Rapid Training.

I do a couple of days check ride every year, and a full two or three week course every 3 years, it's training you couldn't hope to buy and almost makes the rest of the job bearable.

Passed the IAM test around 9 yrs ago, and keep meaning to do what's known as the 'enhanced advanced' test which I think may be peculiar to the E. Kent branch of the IAM.....it's the so-called 'perfect ride' with nil mistakes
Also have done Bikesafe with Mrs S which was fun.
But probably most fun of all was the California superbike school which is all about cornering skills The smoothest, quickest geezer was on a KTM 950 Adventure, the guy left the sportsbikes in his dust!! Which again proves the old saying, it's not the bike.....
Plus quite a few track days on me XJR1300

I did the Honda MAC two day course in 1999 and was lucky enough to get one to one with an ex police instructor. Excellent training, I was amazed not only at the level of observation by the guy but at how well he could narate it in real time. It's high up on my memorable rides as it was during May in the Lake District.

    sucker for punishment you lot!

Keep telling my other half that its a no win job like hers. Teaching, or 'trying to teach' the uk's 'best efforts at producing something you could call civilised'(teenagers!!) in any guise is likely to land you a good dose of stress, or if you have the misfortune to come into contact with the easily offended, then you are down the road?!?! WTF toooooooooo far gone!!

In fairness there are some great people about and great kids that temporarily restore your faith in folk, but have we made the oiks out there untouchable?!? hmm

Anyway back on topic I fancy a spot of this training malarky. Fancy doing some learning stuff again!! Might even knock a bit off my over inflated insurance, which has gone up accordingly to compensate for the no-blame (ha no-blame my foot!! I blame the oik that knicked it to tear up the park on!) claim when my TA got robbed.

Are there any of you guys floating about on here from the Durham/Darlington region that do such things??

Hello Mate, thought you must have fallen out of your crane..

I'll be up for a bit advance training. There's a guy in my street who has an Training School, not sure if he does advanced but he'll know who's in the area.

No but I did fall over in spectacular fashion snowboarding in Lapland (Levi http://www.levi.fi/pages/index.php?i...nguage=eng_win and yes the cabins are all like this all with sauna as standard!!)
over the new year. I managed to punch myself clean in the eye whilst falling on my face at a reasonable turn of speed looking over my shoulder for a mate. (front edge for those that know the feeling!!)

Being -25°C can seriously delay the onset of injury pain!! Particularly as the Fins have their indoor temperatures so damn hot!! Within about 5 minutes of walking through the door my bruises blossomed!! and boy did I feel it once thawed !!

Quirky little place but I really enjoyed it! advise going a little later into Jan/Feb for warmer weather to get more fresh snow.

Sorry guys, but way back when the only training was surviving the rush hour for a whole week without mangling yourself or your moped, you passed if you were still alive on your seventeenth birthday.

Back then though there were only occaisional Volvo's now there's Berks in Merks, BMW's and FRICKEN AUDI's

Spose I should do something, it's getting tricky out there

I've used Rapid Training who I see advertise on here. They are very good and effectively you are being trained by the Police as they are all serving or retired Policemen with Class 1 certs.
