I think we may have hijacked a thread again.
Bletchley park probably won the war, the boffins definitely saved lives and it should be a national treasure (I thought it was)
There is more done about war history in Germany than in the UK or Hollywood, in order that history wont repeat itself everyone should be aware of the truth.
1450 miles in 23 Hours.
In 2000 I completed an Iron Butt Saddle Sore 1000 ride covering 1170 in 19 hours.
The ride started in London heading north to Inverness via Fort William then returning back to London.
After finishing the ride I continued on home back up north taking my total mileage to 1450 miles in 23 hours.
With hind site I should have bagged another 50 miles in the last hour got myself a petrol receipt and got signed off at the local fire station to qualify for the Bun Burner Gold which is 1500 miles in 24 hours.
Ah well !!
Mine was on a KTM 640 Adventure R with the hardest saddle EVER. I'm sure it was stuffed with scaffold planks, and it made an AT seat feel like a comfy armchair.
About 1300km I think, including a ferry crossing, and it killed me.
I felt like I'd spent a week at a Michael Barrymore party, and my butt took 3 days to recover.
Got home, sold the bike!

The longest day charity ride was one of the longest I have ridden a bike for non stop, another was when I rode from Milan to boulogne only stopping for fuel, a distance of about 1100km!!
By the time I got there, I wasen't so much riding the bike as wearing it, if you know what I mean!!!!![]()
Having read some of the posts on here, all of a sudden my ride doesn’t seem that bad. I was also with Snaphappy for the ride at post No. 11.
Alone I did Scarborough to Dover, ferry to Calais, Calais to home. 1100 Kms about 700 miles in 21 hrs. The thing was on arriving in France the rain was torrential and it was blowing a gale. I was doing about 30mph on the French motorways. When I finally arrived home I was officially drenched to the skin. My boots were full of water & I even had to wring out my boxers shorts, before putting them in the Laundry basket.
2 days later when my ar**e recovered I went out and bought an all in one rain suit. Which I have since used and is an excellent piece of kit.
