    Practical test advice

    Hi everyone

I have my A2 test booked for the 18th of August and I'm already getting paranoid...

My friends tell me I'll be fine, but you know how it is, anyway; Does anyone have any tips or certain things to look out for on the day?

    Thanks, Dave.

Make sure your visors very clean, wear old comfortable gloves/boots,and wet gear.
Also clean out your ears put some eye drops in blow your nose till your ears equalise and breathe easy the last bits sound daft but i will explain a bit,,,,,,cleaning ears is good-spacial awareness, eye drops-peripheral vision, blowing your nose -again equalising your ear cavitys-balance,breathing-vital.
If its an early test eat some food if its late drink enough water and then pass your test. GOOD LUCK.

Take your time, enjoy the test. Slow and tight round the corners, don't drift to the middle of the road. Make progress on dual carriage ways, use the outside lane and overtake where safe. If you make a mistake dont dwell on it, you have not failed, just keep riding and drink plenty of water before the test, dehydration lowers concentration.

    Cool Re: Practical test advice

Took my test 17/07/08, put my foot out on the u turn, not down but thought i'd failed. Perfect turn but still the foot shot out, passed with only that fault, so dont think you have failed if you make a small mistake. Good luck. Simon

Do plenty of life saver glances and move your head to use your mirrors it was my observation that saved me in the end

Ok. a few tips here, observation, obsrevation, observation, that's the key, look down every road you come to (both sides) check mirrors every 5-10 seconds then if you do miss an important check you might get away with it. Remember, youe examiner wants you to pass, it's less paperwork for him, keep calm, as said before, a mistake is not a fail, repeat mistakes are so don't worry about a mistake, just make sure you don't do it again. Good luck.

If its any comfort to you, I stalled tha CB500 I took my test on 3 times (had never stalled it before) My U turn was perfect right up until I braked and caused the bike to lurch a touch and I still passed!

    Re: Practical test advice

Sounds a bit odd, but try eating a banana half an hour or so before your test. I didn't usually eat bananas that often, but someone suggested this to me when I was doing my training and for some reason it seemed to chill me out a bit and helped to keep me alert and energised (apparently there's something in them that has this effect and they release energy slowly helping to prevent fatigue). Seemed to help on my test as well. If I'm going for a long ride now I usually eat a banana before I leave or take one or two with me for this reason.

Try to enjoy the ride and ride for yourself not worrying too much about the person following and watching you. When I did my test I was sure I'd failed on the emergency stop (skidded a bit as it was chucking down and the stop was on a hill and had only had 5 minutes prior to the test to practice it - but I seemed to have rescued it and got the wheels moving again apparently - was a bit of a blur at the time). From that point on I had the attitude "to hell with it, I've failed so I'm just going to enjoy the ride I've paid for on the 500 bike now" and that attitude seemed to help a lot (was completely surprised to find I'd passed when we got back to the test station!).

Just be calm, think you are going out for another ride with your instructor and you will be fine, do just as your instructor has said and it will be dandy. Worked for me, first time no minors! (I now shall put my cyber-penis away)
