    Free Riding Assessment

A few of us went to Rykas today and spoke to some very nice motorcycle policemen.

    Get this.............................

If you go to Rykas and they are there, they are quite happy to go out with you for an hour if you would like any assistance with any aspect of your riding FOR FREE - How's that for good PR?

I don't think they'd need a whole hour to assess my riding skills....they'd know I was crap by the end of the carpark!

    How cool is that
RD07a, reg in 2001, Black, heated grips, short screen, Scottoiler, Givi top box and panniers, DataTag, full Riky Cross crash bars, Baglux tank cover, Facet pump, mostly 200 miles to reserve and presently a lot happier since being loved up at Chad's hospital for sick ATs!

That's proper old school coppering, that is; like the coppers we used to work with back in the early 90s (in a former life, before bike training went commercial on a big scale, I put in quite a lot of time at a training scheme; local traffic plod we great bloke, they'd often give their own time to turn up and help out).

    Good for them

Apart from the PR benefit, I bet an hour spent on training is more likely to save a life than an hour spend on New Labour-approved police activity: 10 seconds at a speed trap, 50 seconds paper work, 59 minutes ranting at local journalists about how evil motorists are.
flat out on utterly inappropriate tackle

    proper job!

Educating people in ability and attitude not the persecution of free-will. If people want to go fast they will, helping them do it where it is appropriate and safe to do surely has the biggest impact on their own and other road users safety I'm sure. I do hope we can retain that wonderful thing called choice. If not the powers that be will just make it their personal mission to make us all 50mph half-asleep half-wit drivers that get confused when there is no queue to follow and bimble along in.

Yep and after an hour of following you with blue lights on they tell you off for riding like a madman and take your licence

on a serious note I have just done the Advance Riders safety training with the ADAC (our equivalent of the AA) cost me 120 Euro and I wasn't that impressed, I am looking into one of the Bikesafe days with the London Constabulary, for a proper assessment - instruction I am more than happy to pay, I think I am a good safe rider but feel there is no harm in trying to get better. That and a good long weekend on the lash in Blighty and breakfast at the Ace

    Re: Free Riding Assessment

Local IAM much better option. Group riding and regular assessments. All kinds of bikes not just Beemers and beards. First Aid course for bikers was brilliant, and IAM very pro-active in lobbying DfT for better motorcycling provision eg. altering lethal crash barriers!

Also, sometimes attended by local rozzers and a rideout with them. Not too concerned about overtaking speed, but ride like a and you'll get a bight rollocking....
