    Mud on Road !!!

At this time of year when the farmers are harvesting their crops how do we go on if we hit a stretch of mud they have dragged out of the fields on the tractor tyres?

We were riding back from Southampton on Sunday and came across well over 100 m of thick mud, we slowed in plenty of time and it was not too much of a problem, but it was light and dry roads, if it had been wet and dark I'm sure we would have gone down.

I have just been out again and another stretch not far from home, neither had signs saying 'slow mud on road' or any warning at all.

Would welcome any info you guys may have on the subject.

    Cheers Frad

The problem seems to be that the people who should put out the signs are even slower than the slow mud.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

I remember a cartoon that had a this warning sign - Danger Mud on the Road, then, about 500 yards down the road was a band singing "That's neat, that's neat, that's neat, that's neat, I really love your tiger feet."

    Straight on, usually.

It's a bit out of order if you find this on an A road, without signs Then again signs get knocked down and you can't expect a busy farmer to be checking it every 5 minutes (though I dare say you could still claim on his insurance; some poor b*gg*r had a successful claim against him after a f****ing rambler left a field gate open and his stock got onto the road; allegedly he should have had rambler-proof gates!!!)

On minor roads you should be expecting mud/gravel/wet leaves etc. at any moment anyway.

Anyone got any good tips for dealing with it? I reckon that slowing down in advance is a good move, but if you hit it, do so on the gas (front wheel light; if anything slides it'll be the back). That's hardly an expert strategy though and I wouldn't encourage anyone to follow it.
