    Tyres

Yes, its that time of year again. Wigan had its first snow yesterday, and this morning i awoke to frozen roads and a heavy hailstorm.

On the subject of ice, what tyres do people prefer in icy / snow conditions.
Im about due for another set of tyres, and was wondering if people preferred road tyres, or something a little more offroad orientated?

just put pirelli scorpions on me 05 transalp and it has totally transformed the bike to ride... i used to have bridgestone trailwings on it which were ok but i find these to be way better even though i nearly put the bike on the floor at the first corner because it tipped into the corner so unexpectedly fast.. but now i've adjusted its like i've got a different bike..a new joy

Which type of scorpions? I think the 'ST' is the normal dual-purpose type (similar to Tourance, Anakee, et al.) but there are other more gnarly varieties.

I have Scorpion ST on the Africa Twin, and they're OK; don't steer as accurately as the Tourance but look like lasting longer. By all accounts far better than Deathwings

Nothing works on ice....!! Snow? If hard packed, see ice. In reasonable snow depth that is firm or wet, I reckon mx tyres are about the best, but they are crap for wet roads, which lets face it, are what we get here in the UK most of the Winter...

I find the best thing to put on my bike for ice and snow is..........a nice warm shed.

Pi**ing rain I can do, but ice and snow are a no no for me, well almost!

    Re: Tyres

Fresh snow can be handled, anything beyond that, tread very very carefully no matter what rubber...

That said, I'm in the same situation, still have to replace my worn anakees. With what, still not sure.

I like the anakees for their wet weather capabilities, but I wouldn't mind something a bit more offroadish without going too far into TKC land. Probably asking for the impossible here, though, so I guess I'll probably end up buying anakees again.
