Passed! Now for the big test
.
MCQs were OK - not TOO difficult to guess that you're not supposed to give an injured casualty a cigarette instead of checking his/her breathing though there were one or two more technical questions that challenged my little brain somewhat. A few lucky guesses there, I suspect.
On the other hand, I found the hazard perception test a nightmare. i'd not had a chance to practice this, and I really didn't have a clue what I was supposed to be doing. All very well to tell you to click when you spot a potential hazard, but what do they define as a hazard. A parked car? A manhole cover? or just a vehicle emerging from a side road. You're also supposed to click at the point when you need to take action, but generally that will be a continuous process that starts from the time you've spotted the hazard, not a sudden once and only action. As a result, I was clicking all over the show, but seems like it was OK.
Just in passing, I have to say that I was less than impressed with the manner of staff at the Test Centre in Leicester. I felt they treated everyone as potential criminals. Given that most of the applicants were very nervous youngsters, you'd have thought that a bit of politeness and occasional kind word wouldn't have gone amiss. Maybe they get a lot of hassle and trouble, I don't know, but I thought that their attitude was unnecessarily hostile. Is this the same experience others have had?
Anyway, watch out folks, I'm now ready to go onto the next stage of my adventure...![]()
