    riding in the rain

On my way to work this morning in the pouring rain the car in front of me in the left hand lane of an urban duel carriageway decided without indicating to drift into the right hand lane in front of me and then as I slowed down to about 25mph he decided that he wasn't going to carry straight on but to do a Starsky and Hutchesque u turn at a gap in the central island, taken by surprise I hit the brakes and the back end of the bike fishtailed on the wet surface how I stayed upright I don't know. Luckily I did though because not only didn't I want to damage myself but the bike was booked in for an MOT at 8:30. On the way back from the MOT station where the bike had passed with flying colours I came to a mini round-about as it appeared that the road was clear I intended to progress just then a car appeared from the road on the right and again I hit the brakes hard, again the dreaded fishtail which I controlled. For the rest of the journey back to work and again home this afternoon I took it very carefully. Wet roads after a long dry spell, inconsiderate car drivers, riding too near to the vehicle in front, and breaking too hard is deadly. Stay safe out there!

On my way back from Leicester Royal Infirmary earlier when a set of lights changed to red (No Drama) except rear wheel locks up and through the lights I went ......the pedestrian waiting to cross just stared at me agast.....and I did feel a bit of a tit....but I should have realised the roads were gonna b e greasy this is the first rain for us in about 14 days

I think thats the joy of having wide handlebars, its easy to recover any slides. I almost had a spectacular wipeout riding up a long uphill bend doing about 70 when I hit some leaves. My friend following honestly thought he was about to be wiping me off his fly screen! I think he probably may have had to if I had been riding a sports bike!

Yes thats true. And many times on corners and with less back sprocket teeth [42] is nice to spin the back wheel and make the bike slide... while giving acceleration...

One thing to mention for the gay with fish back...

    1) You propably have a wrong tyre. Try a metzeler Tourance or a Contiescape Continental or something for all weather [rain/dry]
    2) Big Bikes like NX650, brake HITING HARD the FRONT BRAKE not the back. The back is always blocking when pressed hard. The front instead while breaking takes all the weight and speed towards the ground making better attrition with good results in braking. In the bakc their is no weight so whetever you do if you press hard the brakes it will block. You need more weight back to make bigger attrition not blocking it.

Some guys before their big bike, the only bike they have driven were moppets . On moppets if you press hard the front you probably [ 90% ] loose contact from ground and fall donw [front wheel slide]. BIG BIKES need the front brake 85%. The rest 15% is back. Once I have pressed hard the front sunddenly while on 60km/h and the front blocked but slided straight braking for 5 meters with the know sound [iiiiiiiiiighhhhhh]

Next time press hard the front no matter what. And always try to remember: when the back wheel starts to slide release the brake and apply again smoother [I now it is difficult in accident circumstances but with time you will get use to it. ]. Release also the front brake to remove sliding. [releasing front part of the bike to move towards the front faster than back => removes slide.]

    BAck Slides [like supermoto]

ANYWAYS: Dont be afraid of such things. Thats the way to drive these motorcycles, sliding... we can do it, they cant [ street ones go only straignt and harleys are like tankers.. they go also straight slowly waiting for a submarine torpedoe to come by]

Thats monocylinder torque and sliding technic on small town roads...
