    BOATS / RUPPs etc

Im looking for some sort of resource that would list or show on a map the tracks, lanes, etc in my local area that i can do on the bike.

I realise i could probably get something along these lines by joining my local TRF, but thats just more money out of my pocket, and this information must be somewhere else aswell.
    Chris.

Try the highways department of the county council. They are responsible for these routes. You may have to go down the freedom of information route if they think you are a trail rider. Some councils seem to think they have the power to decide who will be "encouraged" to use these routes and who will "discouraged" and therefore make life difficult or easy as they see fit. Lets hope your councill is not one of them.
If you think a route is available then get upto date verification as there seems to be a move to down grade these without too much publicity.

Had a look on that site, but think you still need to join to get full info

Why is this all so secretive?

Look on the Lancs County Council website and look for a link to "Mario Maps". On this you can select "rights of way" and get an overlay on the map showing all ROWs. Trouble is like OS maps they often show a lower ROW, ie bridlepath or footpath along a BOAT or RUPP to disguise its true status. Why, I dunno, and why as someone else said does all seem to be so secret - these are RIGHTS of way after all.

Oh, AFAIK all county councils now have these "mario maps"

Just had a look - link MARIO Maps and Related Information Online

You need to select the "countryside" map category and check the Rights of way box; then select the transportation map category and check the road status box. There is also a TRO amendment box which I suppose would be a double check to see if a road has a TRO on it.

There's a whole bunch of other interesting options in there too, although the map is frustratingly slow to draw and redraw.

Get the os map of the area and go through it with a fine toothed comb. Look for byways, small white roads and UCR's (unclassified county roads) which have red dots. You are then mean't to check the definitive map to get their status at the county council records office. It's a bit of a faff but the problem being there aint many byways out there. The TRF is linked to the Wayfarer system which has ROW online and can be helpful.
