    Waterproof Boots Help

    Hi Diddly Hoe,

Not sure where to post this, But here we go, I commute to work everyday Come Rain, Shine and snow,
Now its the 1st one i want to keep out, after 3 years my Nitro boots have finally started to leak and fall apart and i currently ride with bags in them, with Santa due to visit in 6 weeks i am looking for a purchase,

Can anyone recomend any sub £100.00 100% waterproof Boots,

I was looking at Spada Thunder wp boots,

on another note, Do people ride with bike boots on in summer if they are wearing Draggin jeans, or do you just wear sturdy foot wear ???

My boots have never leaked a drop and have never let my feet get cold. They are the OXtar tcs GORE-TEX very good boots but they squeak like hell when you walk in them

I have a pair of Spada Hurricane, they are cheap but comfortable - the first pair leaked after a couple of weeks, the replacement pair so far havent. I discussed this with the dealer who said he had a few leaky returns on Spada boots.

Altberg. Altberg Bootmakers - Richmond, North Yorkshire

Not under £100, but I'll bet they cost you less per year you own them. Mine coming up to 6 years this winter, ride to work every day in all weathers, never let me down. The velcro that seals the top edge of the boots is coming a wee bit loose now though. I'll be disappointed if they don't make 10 years.

They are fantastically comfortable to walk in, have a proper boot sole (like a walking boot, so it grips), and if you wear them out you can send them back to Yorkshire to get new soles, waterproof lining, outers patched up, etc.

Three things that you might not like: you could have to wait a couple of months or so to get a pair, as they are mostly made to order; they are not like MX boots so not suitable for hard core off road use; and the styling is very traditional, not high-tech star wars type stuff.

I think my boots leak, but who cares cos I have used army surplus goretex socks for the last 15 years (on my third pair). I used them for trail riding too, wading up to knee height when checking fords.
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

I'd recommend spending that bit extra (£180) and buy yourself a pair of Goretex lined Oxtar/TCX Infinity in two years of all weather riding I've never had wet feet and although theres now a bit of damage due to a recent off they're still waterproof....and as a bonus they're incredibly comfortable

I have Alpinestar Ridge boots. (older version of these)

Ridge Waterproof Boot - Alpinestars Official Store

Wear them all year around even at work no leaks and very comfy and under £100 as well if you shop around.

    Re: Waterproof Boots Help

I'm with Yen, but I went down the gore-tex ex army over sock, not as comfy as the seal skin (or something like that) but they have't let me down in 10 years (not as great if you then have to walk 10miles at the other end, but fab for a commute)
I paid a £10 for them, way back when. So if you like the boots you have, it might see them last you through the winter and you can get a pair in the New Year sales!

Summer wise I tend to wear a range of army type leather boots and strap on some shin/ knee protectors, they get chucked in the top box and I'm ready for anything My MX and vertebrea boots come out for special occassions.

    Re: Waterproof Boots Help

I got a pair of TCX SS Sport 2 Waterproof boots to replace the abject failure of a waterproof boot that was the Alpinestar SMX5 WP, about £130 - 140, don't leak and are fully armoured.

They've been fine in a few major downpours over the last couple of months, and they're not too bad for walking in either.

If I could have found some in my size in the shop though, I'd have happily gone back to Sidi Black Rains's, about the same price and I had a pair for three or four years without any issues.
