Anyone considered laser eye surgery? Expensive but just think, no more cleaning your specs everytime you stop.
I had lazer surgery on the 5th June this year and did the Longest day on the 20th June, glasses free. I am delighted with the results.
As for the cost, £1200, the option of three years interest free credit. Thats about three or four pairs of glasses and I get through a pair of glasses every three or four years at £350 a pair.

I went for lazer surgery after friends spoke of their experience and the results. One girl went from bottle bottom glasses to 20 20 vision.

I now have 20 20 vision, I am still on the books for aftercare. I go back every so often for aftercare and have had no problems at all during the recovery.

Lazer surgery is not for every prescription, I asked a lot of questions and carefully considered my options before taking the leap. I have got the results I hoped for and the longest day ride was the best way to celebrate the benifits for me.

Anyone who wears glasses or used contacts will not need me to explain the hastle they are.

If anyone wants more information them I am happy to chat. PS the run for the sun will benifit from the lazer surgery.

I had wondered about laser surgery, but I'm squeamish!

There is a cheap and effective alternative to Varifocals, simple "old fashioned" Bifocals, I've been wearing them for years for Riding and Driving, day and night in all weathers, no problems and new lenses (when the prescription changes, as I get even older) cost about £40.00 a pair, fitted into my old frames. Hope that helps.

Thanks for all the pointers and suggestions. I persevered for about three weeks, then went back to my single-focus driving glasses. What a revelation it was to be able to see properly again! A couple of days later I tried the varifocals which reminded me just how bad they really are. It's so-o-o easy to become accustomed to poor vision.

I've spoken to the opticians - who were sympathetic - and I have an appointment for next week. Thinking about it I'm not sure I would ever use the intermediate focus; I want distance focus for driving and reading focus for maps, nothing else, so bifocals seem to fit the bill. I'll let you know how I get on in due course.
