    Filtering Rocks

The A12 was a total mare tonight. Police had a large section closed due to a gentleman on a roof in leytonstone threatening to jump onto the A12. (all the houses on Grove green road have back gardens - not sure why they thought he would actually reach the road!!).
I joined a snake of bikes filtering through the stationary traffic. When it got clogged I was chatting to a taxi driver in the outside lane who told me he'd been in the same spot for three hours.
Funny how we all seemed to just instinctively gel as we filtered through.
Got turned off onto Orient Way, filter to the lights, then just wizzed back up to the Bakers Arms, Green Man, and home.

No, I really do feel sorry for all those cars, many of whom are probably still there.

    No. Really. I do.

There's a big joke where I work that on the rare occasions that I drive rather than ride in there is always some sort of disaster on the roads. I have been asked to warn them in advance so they can book leave.

Yup, you guessed it. I drove in on Monday AND Tuesday. My boss had to abandon her car half way to work on Monday and take to the train because Blackwall Tunnel was closed northbound and south east london came to a complete standstill.

Back to the bike for Thursday.......

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

Returning from the NEC, the M40 came to a sudden stop.
I managed to filter through the queues with my panniers on, not an easy task.
It turned out the northbound carriageway was closed due to some incident, Too dark to see what. The Southbound was down to one lane.

It appears the gentleman in question finally came down off the roof at 11.30pm last night.

I suspect my taxi driver friend was still there.

    Aww, feck, you're right.

I didnt feel one bit sorry for them

Funny thing is, I left Bow tonight at around 5.30 and KNEW, as I always do, I have a few miles filter up the A12 and I ALWAYS hate it.

Yesterday, skating with a convoy of bikers, making headway, picking off the cars one by one, I really really enjoyed it.

I rode in today and not a single queue in sight anywhere.

Believe me I'd rather use the bike, but I'd done about 650 miles of riding the week before in all that rain and come Monday I decided to sit in a warm box and listen to Wogan on the way in to work.
