quick blast

well has anyone been out in the snow for a rideout yet...my only transport is my AT and i use it all year even in the snow...when i pull out of our street and come upon cars stuck on the bank before the main road and ride past them i get some queer looks as if to say...look at that dickhead on a bike....i would stop to lend a hand but i bet they would drive past me if i was stuck so i dont bother...anyway winter riding is safe with the right sort of bike and proper protective clothing, just take it easy and keep off the front brake..have even put some steel rivetts in the bottom of an old pair of motorbike boots for extra grip on packed snow..dont know what the snow is like in your area but here in the durham area its quite bad so if you can take the bike out to an off road area if poss and have a bash..its all good practice cos you never know when you might get stuck..does anyone agree or do people think i"m mad....kevsky...

Re: quick blast

My tyres are no good in snow plus If I do not need to go out I don't.
It has cost me too much replacing parts from dropping the bike I do nor wish to do more damage.

Re: quick blast

yes stumpy mate....totally agree with you there....if you dont need to ride in this weather....DONT....but the twin is my only form of transport at the moment what i can use in this climate so i have two setts off wheels....one with bridgestones and one with knobblys and there not that bad to swap over...also have a 07 gs but thats wrapped up in garage ready for the weather turning cos the novelty of the snow and ice every morning at 6.30 is wearing thin now...kevsky...

Re: quick blast

I used to use my DR650 all weathers my riding and road awareness improved 1000%
I recommend (with the right bike) that everyone should ride through at least 1 winter

now where's my night heater manual for the van with heated seats and winter tyres

Re: quick blast

I have a Honda C90 that I used to use in the snow. Great fun and easy to pick up and is undamaged when you fall off.

Alas its tucked away in the garage (sorned) as I no longer commute by bike. I now use a plane for that.

Re: quick blast

yep boris, an old freind of mine still rides his c90 to work all winter...or honda (leg sheild) as we oop north call them....he nods his head at me every morning as we pass each other...i would rather ride one of them as say a varadero, much cheaper for bits if you have an offy...and as snaphappy says...rite bike/rite kitt and your ready....and theres nothing better than the sun on your face the first spring morning after riding through a winter like this one were having at the moment..gives you a great sense of acheivment that youve made it for another year...safe riding everyone..kevsky

Re: quick blast

Having ridden through the past 20 winters I'd agree that snow doesn't present serious problems if you have appropriate tyres (Not that we usually get a lot down this way). Much more serious is ice. I've been scared s***less on a couple of occasions this year to find myself in a situation where I've had no grip at all. Both times on the straight so I rolled on until I regained grip. Last time I was rolling forward but sliding sideways across the camber towards the middle of the road.
I takes a lot of miles on dry roads to get your confidence back
