Loved the look of Arborists lid at TLD last year, which was one of these I think

But doubt I'd tolerate the extra buffeting with that visor thing... Doubt anything will match Arai's quality, but going to try & look at the Shark range at the weekend - no side-pods for noise reduction... Decisions, decisions
I have a HJC version of that helmet that i use for offroading, it's terrible on road the peak just catches the wind and tries to rip you head off at a road and motorway speeds. I only bought it as i can take the visor off for comp and leave it on for winter laning i fancied the shoei hornet as my other helmet is a shoei and that perfect, just didn't like the hornet's price for offroading

    My two'pennth'worth

I had an Arai TourX (Tour Cross or Tour Ex???) for about 5 years and loved it, although it was a bit noisy.

I decided it was time for a change a year or so ago, and having only ever had Arai from the day I passed my test (apart from a brief uncomfortable encounter with a Bieffe) I thought my options were limited and I had an Arai head too.

I tried quite a few lids, but wanted a MotoX/Trials lid with a peak, and in the end I bought a Shoei Hornet DS in satin grey, and have to say it fits like a glove and is much quieter than the Arai.

I don't find the peak any trouble at all, in fact it can help stabilise your head at speed by just tipping it down, but the biggest and best part of having one is, when you ride into the sun (which I do a lot on the clockwise Surrey section of the M25) it is a brilliant sun visor, and by tipping your head eliminates any glare.

Take a few hours out to try a selection on at a good bike clothing store.

Infinity are doing helmet deals at the moment, you can part-ex any old helmet for money off up to £100... i think the hornet is £60 off with an old helmet.

    Noooo

I did it on a bicycle helmet. In the beginning nothing happened, then suddenly half of it melted as if it was snow.

PS I have an Arai head too and am also able to have my prescription glasses on my nose in that helmet, I tried others but the glasses got squezed beween my head and the lining and hovered somewhere in front of my face.

Well, to tie off a thread, plunged on one of these from H. Gericke...

Quality looks fine, fit appears good so far (having worn it in the house for the last 40 minutes, indeed the noise from the keyboard is somewhat muffled atm...) though not as nice features as Arai; still at £230, inc. £60 off, reasonable value. Noticably lighter than my previous lids too. There is a similar blue-stripe one, but I think red will suit the @ nicely (ignoring potential criticism of national colours!).
Hoping for many pain-free miles this year!

Hi, I've just bought one of these, it's a Shoei Hornet. Nothing else fits me but Shoei. The visor is quite good, not too big, shades the eyes when the sun is low and it doesn't catch the wind unless you tilt your head right back

LOL, no mortgage, I'm a dealer for Portugal so get them at trade but i don't think they're so expensive anyway compared to other top brands like Arai and Shoei. The ventilation is absoultely great in the heat and in the winter you insert a windproof cap. The most comfortable helmet I've owned - ever. I can't oversate how much I love my Klim lid!

Actually it's thanks to Mooky from this forum who brought them to my attention on his visit last year.

    Re: Helmet Pains...!

I've had AGV helmets over the years, the one I use now is an Airtech. Not their most expensive offering but for me supremely comfortable, stable at speed and very good ventilation. I've heard of the Arai head syndrome but surely it's all about trying plenty on and using the spare cheek pads etc that manufacturers supply. I could not bring myself to try and make a helmet fit by altering the linings etc and for me five years is enough. Also the bike to bike radio speakers fit snugly into a cavity between the cheek pads and the skull liner. My mate has to plug the top ventilators on his Arai with ear plugs because it too efficient! Best thing is to go to a big dealers and try plenty on, Hein Gerike in Leicester were very helpful when I bought my last AGV. Afterall it is the choice of Valentino you know who.
