Petrol station recce for rosedale 2010

Few weeks ago I had a look around at the petrol station in the area for the national

Castleton
Thurs , fri 9am to 6pm
Sat 9 - 1pm
No Sunday
The pump area is on an incline and needs a bit of care when fully loaded.
Situated on high st castleton.

Kirkbymoorside
Cooks a170 (indi)
Thusday, friday 6am to 5:30
Sat 7:30 to 12:30
Sunday 8am to 12:30
Have shop for oil, lights etc

Also in kirkbymoorside is a jet garage and they are open til 10:30 pm


Pickering. A169 malton road
Thurs to sat 6:30 to 10pm
Sunday 7am to 10pm
Have oil, bulbs etc and a workshop (cars) but appear willing to help out except Sunday

Whitby guisborough road, four lane ends
Thursday to Sunday 6am to 11pm
Have oil, bulbs and spar type shop

Spot on.
Whitby is no problem but wont be on anyones route home I would have thought. Guys coming cross country from the north have least options unless you head west to kirbymoorside.

Anyone heading south home on the Sunday would be best heading to the A170, going left into Pickering, when you hit Pickering take the roundabout right onto the A169 and petrol is just on the left... you can either, follow the A169 and pick up the A64 which leads to the York ring road (then you have A19 south and A1M, whichever you want) or double back along the A170 to pick up the same roads. I only mention a double back as the A64 is notorious for heavy traffic and you might not be able to filter fully loaded, but it is a nice road and if you can make progress is a lot quicker than doubling back.

Heading North shouldn't really be a problem, the boring route is again the A170 to pick up the major roads heading both North and South, the scenic route is to head for Castleton and pick up the A171 then it's easy going from there.

Alternitavely if anyone wants to head for petrol on the Saturday evening/night so they can fill up ready to get straight off then let me know and we'll have a jaunt into Pickering (only 11 miles or so).

If anyone is concerned i'd be happy to point out some routes out of the sticks if you have a map or even guide you out onto major roads.

Just to add, other fuel stations are;

Helmsley on the A170.
Stokesley at one end of the high street
Great Ayton on the A173.

The guys coming down from Scotland depending what way you come down can fuel at Guisbourgh if you come the A171 and through Castleton and its not that far from there.
