This morning my wife wanted to me to go with her to look at some furniture she wants to buy for her flat. As it happens, I checked the forum while I was making her morning cup of tea and there was a message from Cabby pointing me to a RD03 on eBay about 60 miles away from us.

So, when I thought the time was right (i.e. after I'd dutifully agreed to look at the furniture and acquiese over the outlay of almost two thousand pounds -on bits of wood, for goodness sake!), I dropped the Twin into conversation.

The upshot was "well, I told you one bike wouldn't be enough for you, and I know you've always hankered after an Africa Twin..." etc

So, guess where I've been today! Unfortunately he wants too much money for it, I think. It's pretty clean with not much rust on the rims (and none near the spokes), but the tank is dented, the chain is tighter than a tight thing ("I like them like that" he says. And he's had the bike five years and two European trips), he says it's never "needed" new spark plugs, oh and it could do with the clutch cable tightening and an oil change.

Four five hundred pounds more than he says he's confident he'll get for it, there a fully-refurbished AT on eBay in British Racing Green and with loads of bits.

So, permission to have an Africa Twin has been kind of granted, but I think I'll need a bit more money to get one in the condition I'd like.

His reserve is £1,500, but he says that the guy who did the MoT yesterday said that as it was rare and sought-after, then £2,000 wouldn't be too far off the mark.

Bloody hell!!! As you probably know the past few have gone for around £1,300 - £1,500 quid, will be good to see what happens - looks like I'll be waiting until the winter at that sort of price. Though speaking to a friend who lives in Rome and she says just to get my arse over there, stay for a few weeks holiday, buy an RD03 there and have a great trip back up the road - she doesn't need to sell that idea to me!!! - though she also pointed out that it's been scorching there lately (even for a native like her) and I'd be wiser to leave it till October.

    We shall see
