Wanted Ali Panniers and mounts for 03 AT

    Hi Guys and gals,

I am after a set of Aluminium Panniers with the mounting bracket to fit my 2003 Africa twin.

If there are no used around i would appreciate any links to sites that supply them new.

I had a look at the Alpos ones at Motorbikes and parts but they said that they don't fit the AT??

    Can you hire them??

Thanks for looking, i appreciate any input!

    Ritz

The Alpos should fit pretty much any bike, assuming you have an appropriate pannier rack and fitting system (pucks etc). They're just blank panniers with no mounts attached. ON my old Dominator, I used Hepco & Becker racks, Touratech mounitng kits and Alpos panniers.

I tried the SW-Motech 'Quick Lock' system on my AT and found it put the panniers too high for my liking, so I bought a Touratech rack instead. That fits much better. I'd imagine that Hepco & Becker do a pannier rack also.

From there, with Touratech's pannier puck fitting kits, the world is your oyster for panniers - Alpos, Touratech, ARDcases, H&B, you name it.

I spoke to Touratech today who informed me that their frames are 18mm steel, others are 15mm.

I am looking at getting the frame and pucks from them then buying other ali panniers.

    Is this a good idea??

What are the pucks like to fit??

    Many Thanks.

    Hi Ritz,

I have the Alpos panniers and Touratech mounts on my '02 AT - it all fits fine.

There are some pictures at... Africa Twin - a set on Flickr

Given that I've only used them once in about 3 years I probably ought to sell them!

    Hi

You may or may not be interested in the aluminium panniers and racks that came with the 1991 AT that I recently bought. The previous owner was a trained aircraft engineer, accustomed to working with aluminium, and he made them himself for his round-Europe trip earlier this year. First he researched and measured as many commercially-made ones as possible.

The frames are aluminium, and bolt on in a total of about 8 places. The boxes are rivetted rather than welded - as he says, aircraft wings are rivetted, which allows the necessary slight movement to prevent fracturing.

Each pannier bolts on in 3 places. So they're NOT quick release. And the frame is even more fiddly to put on and off. But once in position they are light, strong, and spacious.

If you're interested I'll try to take some photos. Haven't got a clue what to ask for them - so I'll be open to offers.....

    cheers - Stewart

    Hi ,
I have three sets of 35ltr Panniers , they are the same dimension as the T**ratech ones and were made for a cancelled trip they are built from 2mm thick alloy, are welded and powdercoated in satin silver . They have not been drilled for fitting to frames but come with stainless brackets and carry straps . You can fit them to T**ratech frames using their fitting kit ( I have !).
As they are brand new I need to recoup what they stand me at so I need 275.00 + p&p . Glenn
