I've been thinking of moving from the AT to a VStrom but not sure which, 1000 or 650. Wish I could keep AT too but wife and finances forbid.

I have a 650 V strom, and feel the 1000 may not be necessary as the 650 performs so well,ok top speed and good torque out of corners.I am 5ft 10 ans half in.and can only just touch the ground at lights etc. The wind blast and buffeting on a trip to Spain last year was awful, but having fitted a Mastad bracket things have improved.I have to get off after an hour to and hour and a half to spank my bottom as its numb, otherwise am very happy with all aspects of the bike.

Cheers for info Mac. Shep in another thread said same thing about buffeting and Madstrad/Mastad? bracket. Heard the DL1000 has been discontinued because it doesn't meet new emission targets so 650 looks favourite for future proofing..

Talking Re: Any V-Strom Riders here

    Hi,
I've just bought the 'Wee Strom' 650X and I've only been riding it for about two weeks now. I think that it's an awesome machine and i'm loving it. I was riding the Honda FMX 650 before this and it doesn't even compare. The only thing is that the 600 miles running in period seems like it'll never end.

These are under rated bikes, slightly different to my Africa Twin but just as good in its own way.

The 600mile service will come soon enough, I bought mine last July and have over 20,000 miles on her so far. This was notched up on little bimbles arround UK & longer trips in Europe and I enjoyed every second of it.

Good little bike enjoy it, all the best Rob

PS if you put spacers behind the wind sheild it significantly reduces noise levels.

I have the DL1000 and am happy enough with it. I looked at the 650 but decided i would rather have the extra power.

It was a toss-up between the Vara and Strom and i'm happy enough with the choice. Had it for 20 months now and racked up a lot of happy miles.

    Re: Any V-Strom Riders here

I sold the AT and got a 4 year old 650 VStrom. Just road from France to italian dolomites taking in quite a few passes (inc the Simplon) and the bike was great. Although buffeting wasn't too bad I've just fitted the Madstad bracket but have yet to test it on a long run. As everyone says, a great small bike and much more flickable than the AT.

    Re: Any V-Strom Riders here

I can endorse others' opinion here after just completing 4,000 mixed road miles on a strom.

My 650 V was is my first "big" bike after a year & 1,500 miles on a Beta Alp 350.

The 650V is hugely forgiving, comfortable & versatile - v reassuring to a novice and I never found windy/breezy. Am not sure why anyone would need a 1000 - the 650 coped 2 up with luggage, and seemed fast enough.

My only gripe is its too heavy & wide for easily squeezing into London's bike parking bays, so I'm planning on changing to a 120-150kg supermoto.
