    2009 drz400e

So Suzuki are bringing back the old faithfull and at under £4k on the road !!

Good honest report in this months TBM I think.

What do you DRZ whores think of the latest version (Ahem! old version resurected !!!) ??.
    2011 Triumph Tiger 800 - "Black Pussy" - MMMM Nice !!!
    2000 Suzuki DRZ400S - "Ol' Yella" - very bright
    2011 Peugeot V-Clic 50cc - "Scoot" - It's my wife's, an enjoyable ride.

    I have a house , but I can't guarantee it's safe !!

    Re: 2009 drz400e

OK so nobody who owns a DRZ wants to talk to Wee Jackie Boy ???

I didn't realise Suzuki ownership was such an antisocial thing ???

So ? would the resurrected DRZ be a good bike for general offroading, trails and riding the tarmac bits in between.

I don't think I'll ever be "hardcore" but I would like a robust bike that can handle the knocks and one that I don't have to strip and rebuild every couple of hours.

    DRZ400E ???

    Re: 2009 drz400e

The DRZ often gets the tag as sort of modern day XR4, very robust with minimal maintenance worry, but although a popular Traily I just find them a fair bit bigger in feel to an XR and lumpy.
Would need a good ride on one to really see how differant it feels, but the likely hood of MoM comin out with us is pretty slim
It does have the button mind which saves a whole load of tiring kickin on a steep mucky incline
Are you lookin Wee Jack for a thumper??

I did have one. It seen very little road use (Not been dirty) so I don't know much about its robust and hardcore until I part-x with my @
At time it was between XR400 or DRZ ? I went for the DRz Because of the Elec. start, and it was more of a road bike than dirt bike.
If you ask me now, It will be an XR ...

They never stopped supplying it. It didn't make the emmission regulations last year but if they import less than 300 a year the regulatons don't matter so they can slowly get rid of old stock. It's cheaper and easier for them than converting remaining stock to fuel injection my local suzuki dealer told me that.
My mates got one does everything the xr will do it just a bit bigger, heavier and a bit more cumbersome

I am indeed , but I'm a total virgin when it comes to offroad bikes and I'm not sure whether I should be going for something small and soft (oo err missus) like a CRF230 or a Kwak 250 - or get something a bit more serious like XR400 or DRZ400 or WR450.

My head says XR400. But a number of niggling uncertainties remain.

I'm going to take myself to an offroad school for a day and see how I get on first - there is a decent set-up over in Fife , that runs everything from tiddlers to full on m/cross bikes, so I think that should be my first step.

I think (no, I know) I want a road legal bike , to save pissing about with trailers or vans.

Also !! those of you who have met me know how "vertically challenged" I am. A few things to consider !!! , but If you have a low hours, minter XR400 with full history, that is taking up too much room in your shed ????? and you are the type of guy who likes a bit of folding stuff pressed into his hand - wee jackie boy is yer man !!!!

Bosser was fishing around a few days ago - hinting he may be selling his - see the for sale thread "Have you ever seen a better XR400" - but it's all gone quiet.

    Re: 2009 drz400e

Jack, my advice is to go for a smaller trailbike for off road riding.

Honda CRF230, Yamaha Serrow, Beta Alp, and similar will take you anywhere offroad, . . . the only drawback is top speed on road, . . . . but you don't want to be going all out on tarmac with knobbly tyres.

On a recent trip to the gap road with Jay and Phil W we were waiting for a group of 10 riders to get through the tricky gully, the one that made it look easy was riding a 200cc Beta Alp with trials tyres on it.

You have only to look at the trials riders, . . . . . light wieght and small capacity gets them places a bigger trailbike/enduro has no chance of going.

If the road/commuting bit is important, set off 5 minutes earlier.

There is a DR400 for sale in North Harbour Motorcycles in Ayr at the Suzuki dealership, at around £2450 with about 8k although its about 4 or 5 years old. They have had it for a while now and I guess that they might be willing to sell it cheaper if no trade in etc.
It's in good condition but on the basis of £4k for a new one then they will need to knock a fair bit off this one to sell it.
Ive been doing some bike training at West Coast Bike Training that is right next door so I can have another look at it if it was of interest.

    Re: 2009 drz400e

Thanks for all the input chaps.

    Airwolf ,

the road legal requirement is only to allow me to get to the tracks and skip along the roads between them , for general road use and longer runs the KTM remains "Top Cat" in the Wee stable. A honda CRF230 at £2500 out the crate is certainly an attractive proposition , but not road legal .

    Jimmcc,

I may have a look at that , but £2500 for a 5 year old DRZ ? when you can get a new one for £3900 list.
