Silly answer: Somewhere between the frame and the swingarm

Sensible answer: Why not get the old one reconditioned? Do a search on the forum. Various people here have had shocks rebuilt. http://www.allbikeengineering.co.uk/html/shocks.html is one option

Give those guys a call. Even if it is 'sealed' it is possible to rebuild them. After all, Suzuki managed to put the thing together when they manufactured it in the first place - it just means there are no individual parts available for it from them. ABE can do all sorts of stuff like manufacture new damper rods etc. so it's worth giving them a call. You may be pleased by their prices too.
