    12V Accessory socket

Today I decided to fit the Honda 12V socket to my 05 TA. Carried out all fitting according to the Honda fitting guide, no problems. Power to socket and plug in my GPS to confirm. Now comes the problem. with a plug fiited into the socket it is impossible to refit the seat. The socket fits at the back of the under seat storage box, almost level with the top of the box. As there is no corresponding 'cut out' in the bottom of the seat, you therefore cannot have a device plugged in and the seat fitted as the plug stops the seat going down. Defeats the whole point of the darn thing!!

Any body else had the same problem and is there a solution.

I bought the same kit and have it in the garage, waiting for me to gain courage and will to extend the wires, drill a hole in the plastic by the dials, take everything off, running the wires under the tank and fit the plug thingy by the speedo. Already took the fairing off once to run some clutch and throttle cables so I'm putting it off, doesn“t sound fun to me

also by the time I take the tank off I“ll probably see how dirty it is and have to clean it, this doesn“t sound fun either

To be honest, this is why I haven“t bought a GPS yet, cause then I“ll have to mount the damn plug

As wrote the message I thought why not just extend the cables drill a large hole and fit it in the fairing I use the GPS a lot and am just fed up of buying batteries.

My GPS is wired straight to the battery, I cut off the fag lighter plug and crimped two terminals in it's place. A fuse holder on the live side as near to the battery as poss' and BINGO. When not in use the plug for the GPS end is velcro'd to the GPS mount.

    Just an idea?

    Cheers

Depends if the fag lighter plug contains the voltage regulator gubbins.

Pretty sure that's how the setup is for my GPS, and if I hack the wiring it'll squirt 12V into something that's only expecting 5V.

Obviously this isn't the same for all GPS - but worth being wary of if you're not sure....

    12v Socket

Got my kit from my local Honda dealer £35 (Honda Pt No 08v70-MCB-801) a bit steep but saves trying to bodge a socket. Have decided that the best option is to remove plug from its mounting brkt and make a velcro strap and velcro it in the stowage box to stop it rattling.

I do not want to 'hard' wire in the power lead as i also use the GPS in the car.
( how do i do the quote thingy?)

I have used 12v lighter sockets for boats in the past on ag machines. Relatively waterproof connections with a neat plug to protect the socket from wet when not in use. About £3 with a couple of quids worth of wire and a £2 inline fuse away you go.
