Fairing storage (or tankbag, if it has to be) for 600TA

I'm trying to prep my TA for a bimble round Europe this summer, and will need to be able to charge my mobile phone from the bike on the way round.

The electrics shouldn't be a problem, but it's where and how to mount the phone that I'm undecided on.

What I'd really like is to find a little waterproof cubbyhole / glovebox type thing that I can mount in the plastic speedo surround somewhere, - either to the side of the clocks, or between the clocks and the screen - with just enough space for the phone, charger cable, and a bit of change for road tolls. If it was big enough to fit a digital camera as well, then that'd be handy too.

Anyone know anything that might fit the bill? Doesn't necessarily need to be bike specific - even a tupperware type box in the right size might do it, and I can probably make up a bracket of some sort.

I'm really not keen on tankbags, as I'll be too tempted to fill it and have yet another item of luggage to lug about when I'm off the bike... but if there's any sensibly priced, easy-to-attach-and-detach type tankbags that you'd recommend for the 600 (which doesn't have a flush mount filler cap, if that affects things)... then I reckon I ought to consider 'em.

    Or any other ideas???

    Cheers

This year while abroad, I used an Oxford expander tankbag (mounted on a Baglux harness), I kept valuables in the bag, used it for maps/directions and for camera/mob phone storage and charging.

As valuables (passport, bike docs, phone, camera) were kept in the bag I kept it with me at all times (bag doubles as a rucksack).
This worked OK but is a bit of a PITA to remove to fill up every time but as it's off it's no problem carrying into petrol station and camera's handy in there as a quick shot can be made without getting off the bike etc, and I need something to hold the map too....

Humpback bag looks/fits better on the bike but the map pocket is too small when covering a lot of ground.

Just my opinion, hope it helps

You could try fitting one of these:

Otter boxes are quite popular for using electronic gizmos out-of-doors. It sounds like you plan to make it a semi-permanent fixture.

Always worth having an extra point of view... but I'm still not sold on a tankbag - especially considering the cost of the decent ones like the bagster/baglux ones I can see the advantages, but there's also an extra layer of faffing to be dealt with every time you get on and off the bike, which I'm keen to be able to do without.

The first time I looked at that site I completely misjudged the size of all those boxes + thought they were huge-ish, sort of toolbox size! could just imagine one of those ratchet strapped to the crossbar, with me peering over the top!

Then I noticed one with not much but a pair of sunglasses in and saw sense (well, as close as I can manage, anyway)

I'm gonna have a go at fitting one of the 8000 model boxes into the dash, so that just the lid is poking out, with all the cables entering the box through the back somewhere.

Not sure whether it'll work out, but it deffo looks worth a go! Cheers for the tipoff..
