    '91 TA Weak Points??

Just moved down from an AT to a TA, circa 1991, 22.5k, v/tidy.
What, if any, are the weaknesses! of this age of bike?
Planning to check out the suspension linkages & bushes (bit of corrosion in that area).
Any help / tips greatfully received.

Watch out when you take the suspension linkage apart, the rollers were all separate on my mates TA (95 I think) and fell all over the place. Still, made it very easy to regrease and reassemble, a better solution than sealed needle bearings I reckon.
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

No particular weaknesses other than what you could expect on a '91 bike (could be anything then!)

Only thing I'd mention is the condition of the output shaft splines.

Yes, the usual output shaft thing. Gold wheel rims rot (esp. around the valve - worse normally on the front), Twin CDI units under the seat can fail - often possible to fix by resoldering (I've done it successfully twice - and it happened on a 1994 one too, and that has a modified cage to cure the problem!), fairing lugs are brittle and break (all held by proper fasteners on the AT. The drum rear brake on earlier models goes oval (had that too), but yours should have a disk unless it was old stock that got registered later. Yen's right about the rollers, but until I read his post I though mine fell out because they were totally knackered! Just goes to show, eh? For me the pre-1994 TAs are the best. Good screen, better headlamp than 1994 on, lighter as well. And the best build quality. If the mileage is genuine I'd be very happy with one of those. Like the original TA concept:

Thanks for the info. Suspension linkage bearings were all fine (somebodies been there before me) and nothing fell out.
Exhaust is original and after a couple of taps to remove surface rust, holes appeared around the upper mounting bracket of the silencer. Managed to fill them with plastic metal as a temp repair. Now to start looking for a 2nd hand after market end can.

Plastic metal on the exhaust? I like the Arrow silencer

    It's about £180 I think.....
