    cam chain snapped

    just bought a 600 transalp with snapped cam chain,that has sheared teeth off end of crank and bent a few valves is thiss a common problem?btw any one know where i can get an engine from as it is uneconomical to repair,please let me know.Great forum btw

    20,000 and has got all service history upto 18,000

    The v-twin that powers both the AT& the TA is very reliable,i don't remember any other post with this problem,was the engine low on oil?.

    not sure, as i bought this bike already stripped,ihave another transalp that has done 50,000 miles without a hitch,i am thinking of putting this engine in if i can't source another

    There was a post some time back where some teeth were missing from the crank sprocket for the cam chain, but generally as Mal says, it's a pretty strong engine. 20,000 is low mileage. I did wonder if there are other Hondas with the similar engine, like the Bros (?) and there's a cruiser type with the same basic layout. David Silver had some V twin 600s for sale that I thought mught be a possibility - around £400.. Dunno, there must be something that will fit!

    does anyone know if a honda vtr600?????? engine is basically the same as a transalp 600,besides being shaft drive,thinking i may be able to use the crank and a few other internal bits to repair my transalp?

    The Deauville uses a shaft driven version of the same engine, i presume the engine parts are the same.

    Never heard of a VTR 600!

    The Bros/Hawk/NTV/Revere/Alp all use variations of the same basic unit, along with a VT 600 shadow (cruiser) and the A/T.

    Never heard of this before tho.

    MY MISTAKE must have been a vt 600 shadow or ntv
