    Centre stand worthwhile?

    Hi

I am thinking of buying the centre stand, do you guys use them? Are they worth buying? Does the side stand remain?

    Thanks

They make life much easier in the longrun, can be a bit awkward to fit.

    You keep the sidestand.

Day to day the sidestand suffices but the centrestand is useful when it comes to maintenance particularly.

I'm afraid to admit that the centre stand has moved to the latest TA each time I get a new one (this '99 one is my third). It is VERY handy for a variety of servicing jobs, inc. changing rear and front tyres, checking steering head bearings, adjusting chain and probably loads more - wouldn't be without one. It's easy to fit, but NOT easy to use I find getting the bike up onto the stand a real hassle....

Centre stand a must in my opinion. Dunno why Honda dont fit one as standard coz I seriously doubt theres one transalp rider/owner wouldnt see the benefits of having one as standard or would object to one being fitted as standard - I mean, its not like it gets in the way of of ground clearance or getting the pegs down!!!

In my own case, where I park the bike at work, is between a small brick wall and a 6 ft garden fence. Without the centrestand the bike just wouldnt fit as it would lean too much on the sidestand, bashing the rear indicators. And it will be no doubt invaluable as other said when I come to do any maintenace on it. So mine gets used daily - as for getting it up on it - its all in the legs maboy - get stand down, rock back and forth once, then drop you weight through your legs, standing on the lever, and up she pops.

i wouldn't have a bike without one. just re-greased suspension linkages on my '97 Tranny this weekend and it made the job a whole lot easier.

You could always make a workshop stand. I made this one. I haven't got a welder so I've just used bolts. Only cost about $30 Aussie dollers and a few hours work. It works a treat. It's easy to get the bike on and off and very secure. Honda charge around $400 bucks for a centre stand. That's a bloody ripoff. I reckon if I had a welder I'd have a go making one.

    Cheers
