Avon Road Riders (yes more tyres)

Looking for new tyres.......isn't everyone (anything is better than the trailwings), FWR in London have just got the new Avon Road riders in, and they are (allegedly) very good. Has anyone here had experience of them. Also i was looking at fitting a 130 on the rear instead of the 120, does any one know of any negative affects associated with fitting wider than spec'd rears??? cheers one and all!

Don't know about the tyres, but I run 130's on mine with no ill effects.

I think my back tyre is a 130/80 17 , but it is a Bridgestone BT45, but the clearance is fine.......depends if you are putting on a mudplugger or not.

If its road tyres no problem .......

This a good site to check.......gives you a good idea of what you can get

    http://www.moto-tyres.co.uk/Motorcycle-tyres.html

Try this site and look for the front tyre first - "90/90- blank- 21" .It will show you sand tyres and 6 day event tyres if you do it this way first , don't put what type of bike or it will give you a small list.

What is the current size? and the rim size? The rim size will be on the side of the rim , normally left side is visible, and should say something like 2.50 x17 (like my 1995 one is) and a load of other garb......

This will help you find the largest tyre for the rim

Had the Avons on for 2 days, clearance is fine with the 130 rear, i know my trailwings were in desperate need of changing (had 5000 from the rear), first impressions were good, bike feels much more flickable, yet to see how they go in the wet and on distance, but apparently they have a new design which is supposed to reduce white line wobble, so i have a good run at that one on the daily bash down the A40 in rush hour.
Chappie who changed the tyres (FWR are spot on) said i have a small notch in my head race because it is too tight. Bike is only six months old so i will be popping down to dealer with a pair of size 11's, and my 'I demand satisfaction' hat on, so ought to have some fun the saturday workers......he he he , i keep you up on how the tyre performs

The head bearings are crap. Very spindly items that don't have enough grease in from new. Changing them is a pain - the outer race that sits in the bottom of the head tube leaves about 1mm exposed for you to knock out with a drift. Plus it's set slightly off centre so you can't even get at the whole circumference. The larger lip you can see is a shoulder machined into the head tube for the race to sit against - so don't smack it.

As for tyres, I run 130s with no probs.
