    Centre Stand Query

Whats the trick with putting a Transalp onto its centre stand and taking it off? It takes a lot of effort to try and push down on the stand inorder to lift the bike up.

Also, how far off the ground should the rear wheel be once the bike is on the centre stand?

I find being 6'2" and 15.5 stone helps

I just get the ball of my left foot on the large foot lever thing on the centre stand, then put all my weight on this while lifting on the grab handle of the back rack rather than using honda's centre stand lifting handle underneath the side panel.

I would say this is quite easy, except this morning when in the process of lifting the bike onto the stand my foot slipped off and I fell over the bike, luckly my fall was broken the handlebars on my neighbours garden wall

Oh, and taking the bike off the stand, I again use the back rack handle and just pull forwards and slightly upwards at the same time.

Much the same, but as I have a top box, big givi, I use the rear left footpeg hanger and lift as well as pushing down on the centrestand. Don't for get to grease the pivots etc. as this will get harder and harder as the winter goes on..........Mine is caked in crud and is difficult to lift and doesn't spring up when I roll it off the c/stand.

It should stand about 50mm off the floor when on the stand. (it does depend how worn the spring/shock is I suppose)

If you are careful you can put the bike in gear with engine running and wax/lube the chain while it is spinning round.

Make sure the bike's front wheel is facing a wall for obvious reasons........

haha, the same thing happened to me. This spill resulted in a cracked braked lever, scratched handguard and a bruised ego coz my cute neighbour saw me dropping it .

In future I will only put the bike on the center stand when I need to do maintanence work and when I have some else there to assist me

The rear wheel on my bike sits about 30mm off the ground when the bike is on the center stand. I can still turn the wheel by hand, so I'm assuming this is fine.

Getting it on the stand is more to do with leg power than lifting.

My tyre is only about 20mm off the floor (130 Distanzia).

except I am a little more than 15.5 stone so its even easier and I use my right foot. The leverage comes from your foot/leg not your hand/arm and once its moving back keep it going. There is a technique (not just for TAs) and I think you can either do it easily, or you can't.

Don't forget that I am running a BT45 on the back and I have a Koni Shock as well, so both non standard.......

I find that pulling the bike back a little and then pushing the stand down helpful, as it uses the weight and momentum of the bike to raise it onto the stand. As there's no way I can get it onto the stand from a standing start without assistance.

    PLEASE DONT DO THIS

I had a friend who was using the above technique to clean & lube his chain - he's now minus a finger after a small lapse of concentration.

    PLEASE DONT DO THIS
