    Transalp Rear Hugger

    Hi everyone.

Ive been in touch with a guy who has spoke to the md at a company down nr dorset, and they are prepared to do a limited run of custom made transalp huggers.

There are a couple of hurdles yet to overcome though. Firstly a member in the dorset region would have to take his/her bike to the factory for measurements etc.

Secondly We need a minimum order of 25.

If there is enough interest we can run with this. These will be custom made remember, so if it happens your ta is going to be that bit more special.

Its a nice idea, but I don't think it's for me. I recon it will fill with mud and jam, just like the original front mudguards do.

If the bike spends most of its time on roads though, it should look cool, and save some time on cleaning!

Best of luck with making something like this work, and lets see some photos when its done!

I would be very interested in getting one if this project takes off mate.
Ive tried a few fibreglass fabricators myself to no joy and as i ride on the road in all elements it would help heaps.
I made an extended rear fender to try and protect the rear shock some more by riveting on on flap of 4mm thick rubber matting. Works a treat but a hugger would be superb.

May be interested, depending on the price and ease of removability for off-roading. Would be happy to take mine to be measured up though: dorset's only a hop down the road.

I will buy one provided its robust and decent quality, looks OK, is effective and easy to fit/remove. Pricewise £70 - £80 would be OK but it would have to be good overall though and I'd rather pay more for something good than less for something crap.
2001 Transalp XLV650. Faithful old friend still chugging away nearly 100,00miles
2007 Varadero XLV1000. Now you're torquing but sadly gone to another forum member. One of the best bikes - period.

To help keep the rear shock clear of road crud I've bolted a small flexible sheet of rubber onto the bottom section of the rear mudguard. It hangs down from the guard to the bottom edge of the swing arm, directly infront of the tyre, thus filling the gap and stopping most crud from reaching the shock.
Only done 200 miles since fitting but so far it's doing the trick (not tried it off road yet, but there is plenty of gap between it and the rear wheel, so stones and sticky mud shouldn't prove a problem).
I'll try photoing it if theres interest.
