    disturbing rattle!!

    Hi there folks
I was after some help regarding a rattle that has developed on my alp.
From cold start i always let it run for 10 to 15 mins before i set off but ive noticed that when i pull it up off the sidestand a rattle occurs on the right hand side of the engine. It seems to come from the clutch housing area of the engine and ive also noticed that when the clutch is pulled in and 1st is selected the rattle goes?
Could it be the oil pump chain or something nastier??
Any of thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Billy

That's clutch basket rattle, considered as normal "they all do that sir ".

How many miles on your bike, and when did it start.

    Don't worry about that.

Tell you what though !! I would change my starting habits , 10 - 15 mins ticking over on the side stand , not good.

Sit on the bike start it , choke for no more than 15 - 20 seconds ( if it need more than that there is a problem) then get going. the best way to warm and engine through is normal driving ( not thrashing !!) leaving a cold engine on tickover for extended periods is not good for the top end mate.
    2011 Triumph Tiger 800 - "Black Pussy" - MMMM Nice !!!
    2000 Suzuki DRZ400S - "Ol' Yella" - very bright
    2011 Peugeot V-Clic 50cc - "Scoot" - It's my wife's, an enjoyable ride.

    I have a house , but I can't guarantee it's safe !!

Some do it some don't, maybe a carb balance would help?

    What age/milage is the bike?

thats good to hear that its considered 'normal' , thankyou for clearing that up. The old girl is a 1988 model with 67,000miles under her belt. As far as i can remember it started roughly 2 to 3 weeks ago but then i may not have been aware of it beforehand because im half dead at 5am!!
I didnt know that leaving it on tickover for long periods was bad news for the top end thankyou for the tip, will start putting that tip into practice in the morning.
Dont take this the wrong way but i love all you guys
    Cheers

yup just fire it up and go steady for the first couple of miles much better than leaving it to tick over with the added bonus that your riding sooner

On mine, it was a loose drive sprocket. Symptoms exactly the same, bikes about the same age, too.

    Hope it's not.
