Hi all - new (old) TA here.

Sold my Vara to pay some bills and picked up an 87 Transalp for the winter. Just thought I'd say'hi', cos I'll probably be asking for help at some point I see dirty, scraped knuckles in my future.

She's cosmetically awful, but a few days rubbing and spraying should sort that. Some plank has welded the drive sprocket to the countershaft and its working loose - other than that she runs like a dream and handles much, much better than I thought. My next bike will probably be a new one. Never thought I'd enjoy riding it this much!

For a bike that's almost 20 years old, sounds like you got of lightly.

    Enjoy your new (old) TA.

    Welcome to the forum

    Hi and welcome

The sprocket will have been welded on as the output shaft splines will have worn - a proper bodge, the alternative is a full engine strip to replace or sell it......

    Thanks for the welcome.

piguglyshandydrinker and chad - yeah, I realised that about the sprocket, and I'll fully strip and shaft replace in the summer. In the meantime I've welded on a new sprocket properly and I'm currently spending my Friday night covered in paint dust. 1 satin black Transalp coming up ...

    (bloody bikes ... )

Only one thing beats a satin black bike, thats a full on matt version

Nice to see the shaft has been suitably bodged!
