Hagon Preload Adjuster - where to mount?

I've just fitted a Hagon shock to my 650 and because I ride a lot with a pillion I specified the remote hydraulic preload adjuster. Trouble is, I can't figure out where to attach the preload adjuster to the bike!

Has anyone done this? I realise that I can phone Hagon tomorrow but I don't expect them to know details like that.

Have a look at this, I was in a similar predicament, decided on the subframe downtube under the battery.

Hmmm, mine cost a bit more than yours....

The hagon adjuster comes mounted to a neat machined plate but I was already thinking I'd be better off without that. I'll give them a call tomorrow to see what they say but your mounting position looks pretty sensible, although mine comes out on the left hand side of the bike at the moment.

In case anyone's interested this is the mounting solution that I came up with:

And before anyone comments about the state of the bike I'd just like to point out that it only owes me £1,400 INCLUDING new Hagon shock, progressive springs, full (DIY) service and new Anakees, so I don't care!

Now that you have been running this setup for a while, how do you find it? What did they charge you, as I recall, it was one you had made for you?

Reason being is that I seem to be swapping a lot between solo and pillion usage, with the pillion varying in weight substantially.... As we all know, adjusting the TA preload is a nightmare and Mr Piguglyshandydrinker's mod looks excellent but is more hassle than I can really bear, sad to say.

I'm really happy with it. It took a while to get the bike set up the way I like it (balance of ride/steering/stability/seat height) but that's the good thing about having easily adjustable preload and damping - it's quick to fiddle with. Now the bike's properly set up for riding two-up with a loaded top box (rider, pillion, kit, luggage probably totalling around 180-190kg) I find I hardly notice the weight of a pillion in terms of handling.

I also don't bother to adjust anything for riding solo now (it makes up less than 10% of my riding on this bike) - I ride somewhat more enthusiastically on my own and the tighter setup is well suited to that. But if your pillions are a lot heavier than mine you might find the need to make adjustments each time - easy to do.

The shock is a standard Hagon unit with their optional remote preload adjuster. I wouldn't really say it was made especially for me - all they did was fit the remote adjuster to it before sending it! You can find prices on the Hagon website but it was £255 for the shock plus £125 for remote preload. And if you haven't already fitted progressive fork springs you really should - £55 pls £7 for new oil.

Very interesting Sproggy, thanks very much. It sounds to be just what I want on the 'alp, but a little out of my budget this side of the Summer having spent a few quid already on little "extras"!

It is the ability to alter the preload quickly for different loads that really appeals. All up weight before panniers etc will vary between just me, 80kg to
150kg, so similiar loads as you have. Oh for a nice deal on eBay b4 all the other XRV lurkers see it

I've never seen an aftermarket TA shock appear on ebay. Well, not a 650 one anyway. You may have a long wait....
