    Splitfire's WOW!

Maybe my plugs were shagged at the service, but fook me the difference in mid - high revs on the bike now is awesome! 50 - 80 in top gear is just brilliant compared with the old plugs. I would recommend these to anyone, http://cgi.ebay.ie/HONDA-XL600-XL650...QQcmdZViewItem I haven't tried it for fuel economy yet (but will keep you posted) , but anything has to better than the 120 miles I was getting till I hit reserve (lots of thrashing around town local stuff) , bear in mind the front caliper was binding and needed stripping as well, now fitted a front Melvin braided hose from wemoto http://shop.wemoto.com/pictures/brakes/melvin.html. Haven't fully tested yet as the pads are new as the old ones only had 1mm left on them!

Cheers for that babybadger, just ordered the plugs from that link, £14.75 is lot cheaper than I can get 4 NGK's for. I'll be doing my 8k service over Christmas and will let you know how I get on with them.

The 120 to reserve sounds a bit low. Makes me think that your old plugs were shagged - I only say this coz I stuck some splitfires in a while back and didn't notice any massive leap in performance. Could just be me though....

These pics of flames suddenly being able to jump up as well as sidewards from the plug's electrode is the biggest bo***cks I've seen in ages Whatever shape you make the electrodes, a spark will only travel between the electrode and the mass, and not wildly scatter around it; the actual combustion will be triggered with any sort of spark and its flow is far more dependent on the shape and swirl in the combustion chamber, or, like on the AT/TA, whether there's an extra plug in the head to speed up the combustion process.

It reminds me of those Bose-loudspeaker adds in the 80's of sound bouncing around the livingroom as if it was a laser-show.
    American marketing practices, gullability galore

I am sure they work well as a replacement for old plugs which have seen better days, and the price seems alright too, but I wouldn't expect wonders in mpg or power-delivery as suggested in the adds.

I don't think many people believe the hype around these plugs, I think in baby badgers case, replacing knackered plugs resulted in an improvement in performance, which is what you would expect. Personally I have used splitfires a couple of times before, in my Goldwing, purely because I got a deal on them on ebay and being a cheapskate, didn’t want to fork out for six plugs at ‘rip-off Ireland’ prices. I found them to be the same as the NGK’s, no better, no worse, the engine didn’t run hotter nor colder and fuel efficiency was exactly the same, at replacement time they came out that nice light coffee colour that you would expect from an engine that is running well, so my advice would be to use them if you get them at a reasonable price, but don’t pay over the odds for them thinking that they’ll do anything other than what the standard NGK will do.
