The TA makes a fab "rally" bike, although a nearly new one would be a lot to risk!
You may be suprised just how far off-road it will get you though.

The original headers can be modified to remove the cat, quite cheaply (or free if you have (or have a friend with) a welder).

Wheeliebin had some custom headers made by Zorstec of Bradford (i think!), I'm unsure if anyone makes a full system for the 650.

Arrow make a full system for the 650 'Alp - it's about £440 and they claim a 5bhp increase. Available from B&C Express.

Thank you for that, I will give them a call. I have also found a place that will do a complete stainless system with a 10 year guarantee for £420 + Vat. I spoke to a guy called Colin they are in Welwyn garden City.
    Tel: 01707334050
Here is the web page http://www.predatorexhaust.co.uk/
I have still to do the deal on the bike hopefully finalise it by Wednesday so i should be all set for some tweaking over Christmas.

Predator don't list a full system for the 650 on their website, only for the 600. And even if they do have one, nearly £500 including VAT is VERY expensive. Personally I'd go for the Arrow system with a saving of £50, even if Predator are just around the corner from me.

    GULP

Or 20 quid to pay a local metalworker to cut the cat and weld a stainless plate over the hole!

um, don't want to put you off coz we are all a bit biased here, but it sounds to me like you are chasing the wrong thing here.

£3,900 sounds a really good deal for nearly new TA. I were you would buy it run it for while and If I didnt like it part-ex it for what you paid for it. I wouldn't try too hard to put the power up as you won't get what you want and will loose value in the bike if you sell it.

The TA makes 55bhp, even if you add 20% by tuning exhaust and carbs (unlikely as it would be well known mods otherwise) you still only have 66bhp. If you find 55 gutless, then 65 is not going to be that much better. I am also very dubious of claims of an instant 10% increase in power just by fitting an exhaust. If it was that easy Honda would do it. The cat/sub-chamber mod is easy coz its a change to a legislative requirement honda have built in. I haven't doneit but a few here swear by it.

Most people with ATs and TAs buy them not for the power but because they are good versatile all-rounders, reliable, fun adventure bikes, and most of all NOT sports bikes.

    Good luck

    Good point Austin.

Buy an Alp because you like it as it is, do mods to give it a little more oomph if you want - don't expect miracles though.

A few of us have had the bikes dyno'd as stock and with exhaust/filter/airbox mods there is little to gain in outright Hp, think 47 to 48 at the rear wheel!
Most of us find this adequate, helped by the fact that the motor is very flexible throughout the revrange and the handling is neutral and confidence inspiring.
