    Changing the TA Windscreen

    Hi everyone,
I've just bought a beautiful Silver 2005 TA and I am trying to change the screen for a touring model. My problem is that having removed the 4 screws securing the original screen in position, the rubber plugs that expand to fill the gap with the fairing won't come out. I am worried about tearing them if I use pliers. Perhaps there is a technique one of you knows about - or do I have to take off the fairing and instrument cover to push them out from behind?
    Thanks
    Stephen

I just pulled mine off with pliers when I took the screen off. Won“t vouch that you won“t ruin them though, never crossed my mind when I did it

Squirt a little washing up liquid around the hole, replace the bolt a few turns to get a hold of it, and gently work the grommet through.

even if you do tear them dont worry most bike shops or a hien gericke will stock replacement kits complete with the bolts and the plastic washers

oxford do them and i think they are around £7-8

They arecalled "well nuts". Inside the rubber is a small nut and as you screw the bolt in it tightens up and squeezes the excess rubber between the screen and the fairing so creating a safe seal.

Mine nearly always come out with the screen - usually dropping somewhere inaccesible. They are easier to pull out from the bottom.

The top two can be in place as you offer the screen up when refitting but you have to put the bottom two in with the screen in place - saliva, WD40, washing up liquid etc makes it easier. I find them surprisingly robust and still on originals despite taking the screen off dozens of times.

As above, I find it easiest to remove from below, warming and rolling them between the fingers helps before reinserting.
