    Cylinder warming question.

One other quick question - when I was running the engine to dry it yesterday I noticed that the cylinders were at different temperatures to the touch - by that I mean, as you sit on the bike, the right rear cylinder was too hot to touch by hand after a few minutes, the right front was warm and comfortable to touch, the left rear was the same but the left front cylinder was actually cold

It's not something I'd normally notice only I was lathering the bike in acf50, and the bike seems to be running as it always did.

Is this quite normal, or have I a problem with that cylinder or spark?

    Cheers

    tom

Check to see that the rads are full and that you have coolant in the expansion bottle.. ( when its cold!!!!!!!!!)

if all is well the only explanation I can think of is that the temp diff its due to the watercooling being around the cyclinder bores and not the cam chain gallery

if it worries you dont look

    am I missing something?

My tralp's only got 2 cylinders...

but yeah, check the coolant levels, if it's too low to circulate properly you might get odd results like that i suppose.

    :P

    thanks for the replies.

Coolant is just on the line.

What do I add to it - is the coolant just a straight mix of antifreeze and water??

    thanks

and merry christmas one and all

Coolant should be at the max line but only when the engine is at normal running temp so check it (by looking, not opening) when you get home from somewhere. Mix is 50/50 antifreeze and distilled water. If mine needs topping up, I put a rag around the cap on the coolant bottle before opening. It shouldn't spurt but no sense in being unprepared eh. I coulda been a boy scout you know if it wasn't for these damned horrible knees.
