"Fenda Extenda" or Mudflap or .......... ??

I don't do any "mudplugging", so I don't need loads of clearance between tyre and mudguard. I find the standard front mudguard just a wee bit short and now that the gritters are out again, I am starting to get anoyed at the amout of "keech" getting thrown onto the front of the frame above the sump guard. I have been told that there is not a standard "Fenda Extenda" available for the Transalp. Has anyone adapted anything or made their own mudflap to try and keep a bit more of the roadcrap from getting flung up ??

Don't know if it will work in this role, but on little off road bikes I've used a section of old 4mm inner tube, cut open to go down near the swing arm to keep some crap off the rear shock. It might not be stiff enough, ond would need the front m.guard to be drilled to fix. Possibly with a couple of small metal peices to give it the stiffness? (Halford radio/cassette mounting bits I've used!!)

In winter I cut rubber strips and fasten them to cover the holes on each side of the sump guard and put another across the front of the engine, where the vented black grill is and block a radiator off.

This certainly keeps the crap off the engine, bike runs fine, only starting to run a bit warmer in towns when the temp is getting to mid teens.

I cut another strip to put between the crappy Honda plastic thing and the swingarm, but made a bit longer and wider.

Ok so it looks rubbish, but I've used bits of rubber, plastic oil and milk bottles for all sorts of 'fender' jobs.

    Re: Extenda Fenda

This won't be to everyone's taste but I have adapted one of Pyramid Plastics ExtendaFendas. The one I used was intended for a 125 Varadero but I think with a little patience you could fit almost any.
I used boiling water to soften the Extenda, 3 x 5mm bolts + some Araldite to secure it.

I find a section of damp proof course (ie the plastic membrane that goes between courses of bricks in a house) makes a fine and cheap and just bendy enough material for zip tying onto rear shocks, dangling off the end of mudguards etc.

I've used an old rubber car mat for a front mudflap and to fill the gap between the swinging arm and inner rear mud guard. Works a treat. Did the same on my last Transalp and the original shock still had dampening at 35,000 miles before I sold it! Stops all the road crud damaging the shock.

Re: "Fenda Extenda" or Mudflap or .......... ??

Having failed to get a commercially available extension / mudflap for the front mudguard and having been inspired by Piguglyshandydrinker's ultra-bodging .....................

I've finally got round to making my own fenda extenda, and I will post my "how I did it" guide once I get some problems with the gallery sorted.

Meantime if anyone can't wait !!!! there are 8 photos in my gallery titled "Fenda Extenda" ...........

You're all clever people and can probably figure out the 8 stages.......

Make a cardboard template ..... cut out a piece of old plastic oil drum .....
mould to shape using boiling water ....... spray it ....... mount it using large washers to spread the load ........ the finished look may not be to everyones liking.

I'll be testing it this week , thats for sure ( have you seen the forecast ????) and let you know if it stays or gets ripped back off again.

Nice bit of fabricating Jack, should do the trick.
