    Powerbronze touring screen?

Hi I'm a new TA rider and have been looking at the site for a while.

I'm considering a touring screen and wondered if the Honda version is worth the extra pounds over a Powerbronze version. I guess the final answer will be personal choice but I could not see a picture on the Powerbronze site to make a visual comparison.

The bike is a 06 model in black with Givi engine bars & Givi monokey baseplate and was bought to replace my 1993 Dommie which is up for sale.

I have just orderd a touring screen from here http://www.bikehps.com/mra/ I went for the Vario-Touring Sports Screen as i am 6ft so i thought to be able to adjust the screen could work well? I will let you know how it works and how it looks fitted when i get it.
    Regards
    Tay.

I would really like to know how you get on with that screen!
They are very expensive to buy out here in New Zealand and I have been trying to find someone who has actually bought and fitted one.
I am talking about the Vario touring screen with the adjustable louver on it.
    Cheers John.

Happy new y'all. I think, so far whenever anyone else has posted on here about higher or touring screens the consensus is that they make things worse rather than better - certainly in terms of wind noise and helmet buffeting, but perhaps a bit better in weather protection. The agreement seems to be lower screen for less wind noise and buffeting. I have a spare (new) screen and one day will cut the existing one down to try - I should have asked for a dremmel for Christmas.

Someone on this forum once said that there is no cure for the wind noise, and after months of testing I am now close to agreeing with them. I have bought a MRA Vario. I have also bought a Skidmarx from the BMF as a second. I have also bought a second hand screen from the Copdock show for £2. I have cut this one down by two and a half inches.
My conclusion is that the lower the screen the less wind noise but also less protection.
I put the Skidmarx on again the other day just to check (highest screen I have found) and it was louder than a very loud thing. The MRA is good quality, but is also noisy.
I am now using the cut down secondhand, which is better, but still not good enough. My next step is to visit Spec savers for some fitted ear plugs, has anyone tried these. Are they better than the foamies I always use?
What gets me is that I’ve spoken to a number of TA riders who look at me as though I’m daft complaining about wind noise. One even uses a Skidmarx?
I used to ride an unfaired bike so perhaps I’ve been spoilt?

I had a Honda touring screen and the wind noise was unbearable so went back to the standard one. Now with ear plugs don't really notice wind too much and the wind protection doesn't bother me much

    screen

Hi I've got the Givvi taller screen , picked it up on E Bay for £27 and its good whatever you get it will give alot more protection than standard but you may get some turbulance round your helmet at certain speeds
I guess its like any fairing or screen there is always a trade off --------- Chris

The windscreen that I want to know if anyone has tried is the vario with the adjustable (seven stage) louver!
they make another touring screen which is just another tall screen, please don't confuse the two!
Incidently I cut the top two inches off my GIVI touring screen but it blew to pieces just as I was cutting the last two or three mm!
I will have to get myself a taller screen before the next winter the cold is worse than the noise, that's why I want to know about the MRA Vario adjustable touring screen.
Too bloody expensive out here to just get one for a trial!
I have done nearly 50,000km on my T/A and would buy a new one in a heart beat, if it wasn't for that bloody noisy screen business!
The seat was another problem but have fixed that.
Too high in the final drive gearing and I fixed that.
Everything else is just what makes the T/A one of the best bikes I have ever owned despite the fact that it is only a wee 650cc it will do just about everything that one bike can do, over and over and over. Bloody good bike IMHO. Cheers John.

I had the power bronze touring screen on my 03 alp. If your anything close to 6ft tall dont waste your money. I took mine off. In anything other than a perfect windless traffic free day the buffeting was so bad that at times it was blurring my vision from the buffeting round my helmet. It also catches your handle bars when on full lock, ie when putting steering lock on. Also very very noisy to the point I got earplugs with string on so I could push them into my ear pretty deep and be able to retrieve them. Ive gone back to the original 'stock' honda screen. Its not actually that bad.

From what I remember someone was selling a vario adustable on here a while back for the alp. Reading between the lines he was saying it was a p.o.s. It went on fleabay I think.

hmmmmm, personally I find my screen just a bit on the noisy side and that only the basis that if I stand or sit up very very straight it gets a bit (not a lot) quieter. The only time I get buffetting is with a heavy pillion, I am 6'2" which makes me think that if you are just a bit shorter than me you may get the buffetting - try increasing the spring compression = higher ride height - and it might go away.

I am still going to chop a couple of inches from the screen one day though - that and the airbox/Cat mods
