    Filler plate/flap/nuisance

Has anyone tried (sucessfully!) to remove that REALLY annoying plate that sits at the bottom of the filler neck on a 650? The one that has a flap in it that the fuel nozzle just fits in to.

I'm sure it's there to stop stoopid Americans filling the bike with diesel and then suing Honda (OK, if there are any Americans here I know you're not all stupid but as a nation you are stereotypically prone to calling your lawyer at the slightest provocation) but I know the difference between green and black and would prefer to take my chances and be able to fill the tank PROPERLY in a reasonable amount of time.

One obvious solution would seem to be just hitting it and breaking the welds that hold it in place (having attached something to it to allow its removal from the tank).

Doesn't that plate annoy other people or is it just me.....

    It annoyed me!

Solution - errm, hitting it with a hammer to break the welds (well, brazing)

OK, in reality I used a sharp wood chisel, eventually got it free without too much butchering to the filler neck, then found that it wouldn't fit out of the top of the tank!!!
Mangled it further with a big pair of mole grips.

The flap was only fitted to earlier Alps.
