side stand movement?

was fitting a scottoiler yesterday and thought i'd try and do something about the clattering side stand, then i noticed that there was some play in the stand when the bike puts it's weight onto it, it's only about 10mm but i wondered "is that right?".

(need to buy center stand at some point)

BTW i couldn't silence the side stand either

There's no play at all in the sidestand on my 650 - certainly it shouldn't rattle.

sorry i should have explained better,
it only clatters when i lift it up and it crashes into the metal stop on the bracket, it doesn't rattle or is loose while riding, just very loud when lifting it up.

That's when i noticed this small amount of play in the stand, the bracket is firm but the stand can be moved by hand away from the bike by 10mm or so, it returns on it's own but i couldn't see any spring other than the main one.

They all do that sir, All my bikes have about that amount of play once the newness has worn off.
