    Base plate for side stand

    HI,
Has anyone tried fitting a bigger base plate to the side stand on the TA.
Outside my house is all gravel and the side stand tends to dig in making the bike lean over too much. I have a plank of wood on the ground at the moment.
    Any suggestions would be welcome.

All my Africa Twins have had a piece of car tyre bolted onto the foot of the sidestand. You can park on quicksand with that!
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

I did have a plastic sidestand puck permanently pop-rivetted on, the alloy rivet failed after a while, I now have a lump of 2mm stainless plate bolted in place.
    Works a treat.

    Hi
    I use a square of 5mm aluminium.
This has been drilled and tapped so the screws with flat washers
bear against the side of the original sidestand foot.
    Loctite in place of course.

    cheers

I remember while staying on muddy camping-sites putting the side-stand inside- or on the nose of one of my boots to avoid mayhem. Having size 13 myself means you can park it in a lake if necessary. Looks quite funny as a bonus. Not recommended if you have fancy and/or soft boots, and it's also unconvenient if it's the only foot-wear you have available (unless you were not planning to go anywhere in the first place ).

I've seen the crushed beer can used by a biker at the V Festival last year.

My AT has a bit of metal welded to the base of the sidestand, I can take a pic if you want. Wasn't done by me but did seem a useful addition!
