    I've got this mate, see.....

& you know how it is with mates, ....they buy a bike, no idea how it works . Anyway, he's a bit of a luddite when it comes to modern bikes (although he knows how to make old ones fall apart.)

Well....he bought a (2006) Transalp, & he loves it....& he's read the instruction manual, but he can't suss out whether the bike has a fuel tap or not

It's sort of important to know, beacuse it goes to the heart of how / when the 'Reserve' facility works ?

Anyway, if anyone can tell me .....sorry......him !......he'd be obliged

No fuel tap, the reserve facility demands you to look at the fuel indicator from time to time, with extra attention from when the indicator passes below half

I think when the pointy thing first points at the upper right corner of the "E" you´ve got about 4 liters left, maybe

No fuel tap on the 650, you have a nice accurate (well at least for the latter half of the tank) fuel gauge, which lets you know when it's time to fill up, so no more desperate groping for the reserve option on the fuel tap on the outside lane of the motorway, when the engine dies and mondeo man is closing in at 90mph on the phone, checking the FT.

Well no fuel 'tap' a such, there is a vacuum operated on/off valve (tap?), that prevents the engine flooding with petrol in the event of a carb problem.
    No vacuum, no fuel flow.
