    Manuals and tank removal

Just bought a 2001 TA and would like to know if there are any workshop manuals available for this model. I would like to run a power lead from the battery to the handlebar area for my Garmin SP111, and reckon I would need to remove the tank to do so. The basic owner's manual is a bit vague.

    Here we go...

Remove lower fairing fasteners (1 each side)
    Remove rear tank securing bolt
Remove vertical screws attaching clock surround to fairing (Phillips head with)wellnuts.
Prise the fairing away from the tank - there are two pegs (that go into rubber gromets) on each side, one upper, one lower - use a little red rubber grease to ease future re/asembly.
Use (long nose) pliers to pinch & pull back spring clips for fuel hose & vacuum hose.
    Prise Hoses from fuel 'tap'.
Disconnect the fuel gauge connector (blue, alongside wiring harness above l/h side panel (under seat)) and place it so as not to snag when removing tank.
Ease up the rear of tank and pull off the two pipes (breather & overflow).
Ease up the rear of the tank & (with one hand at the front & one at the rear) gently slide the tank rearwards.

Hope that this helps, doesn't take too long once it's been done a time or two!

    Phil

Yeah right - I used to spend as long as everything else put together getting those ******* pipes off, and even longer getting them on again - until I took the BIG scissors to them. Now its takes, oooh seconds.

One's a breather, the other is an overflow. So if I don't overfill, who needs them

Thanks, I will have a go soon when I have a low fuel level. Have done 80 miles since full, and the gauge still shows full when the bike is upright, about 3/4 when on side stand.

My needle doesn't budge 'til about 130miles, then drops to 1/4 left in about 20-30 miles. Then its klinear and accurate after that. You will have about 2-3 litres left when it touches the E and its empty when its nearly the wrong side of the E - I know coz I put 18.5 litres in mine this morning.

However the tank isn't that heavy with fuel in, but you will need to wedge it up a bit to get those ******* pipes off and on.

There's a readily-available Haynes manual. Factory manuals come up occasionally on ebay.
